UPDATE MIDNIGHT: Red Warrior Camp said, "The Morton County Jail booking process of the water protectors continued on into the evening hours. Jail officials informed the Camp's legal team that the North Dakota States Attorney, Al Koppy, had ordered that only a North Dakota licensed attorney could visit the jailed water protectors, which is a violation of their constitutional right to counsel of their choosing for an initial consultation." CANNON BALL, North Dakota -- Morton County Sheriff's Office is denying jailed water protectors contact with an attorney, so they are unable to post bail tonight.
More than 20 water protectors were arrested today defending the Missouri River water from the construction of Dakota Access Pipeline.
Cody Hall, the media spokesperson for Red Warrior Camp, said jail staff are using the excuse that none of the Standing Rock Camp attorneys are licensed in the State of North Dakota.
Hall said police in riot gear with semi-automatic weapons arrested the water protectors today.

Isn't bail up to the court; not the sheriff?
ReplyDeletePOSTING BAIL - DOESN'T REQUIRE A LAWYER - A LOCAL BAIL BOND AGENT OR A FRIEND IN PERSON - CANNOT - BE DENIED - IN "ORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES" - THIS SHERIFF - IS - "OUTSIDE OF LAW" - WHERE'S THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL - TO PROSECUTE THE SHERIFF - BEFORE - IT BECOMES - A "FEDERAL CONCERN" - ALREADY "ON ALERT" ON "THE ABUSE OF POLICE AUTHORITY" - OR IS THE SHERIFF - ON A PAID CONTRACT BY THE PIPELINE COMPANY - ON HIS "OWN TIME" - WEARING A "COUNTY BADGE" - TRYING TO WEAR TWO HATS AT THE SAME TIME - MAYBE IN A SMALL TOWN, BUT NOT - WITH THE WORLD WATCHING ONLINE.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like the sheriff has kidnapped the 23 protectors .. this has now became federal .. Call the FBI and CIA and the Attorney General and the US Attorney Generals office first thing in the morning . This man will not have a job by noon . Then after wards sue the holy bejeezus out of him .
DeleteExactly..you said it!
DeleteHave they been released? 8:55 am 9/14/16? Please let me know because the jail is telling callers that they have been released
ReplyDeleteTold me the same thing that they were released but they are still holding Olowan Martinez
DeleteI called the jail, they will not tell me whether folks have been released or not. They gave me a phone number for the public relations line, which of course has a recording. I left my number and asked for a return call. The number is 706-426-1507. It would good for others to call and leave messages requesting a return call.
ReplyDeleteAll Jails are required to post online all people held..... Google inmate list for the county and that should tell you what you want to know
DeleteThis isn't lawful, a county in Tx tried this with my husband and myself and our attorneys read them the right act.
ReplyDelete"ACCESS" PIPELINE? 'ACCESS DENIED'!
ReplyDeleteI called the Sheriff's Department (701)667-3330 and spoke to a very rude lady. I warned her that if they did not leave the protestors alone there were going to be a whole lot more protesters coming their way.
ReplyDeleteI'd advise more to do the same, she called them "these people", and acted as if she was eager to see them all removed from her jurisdiction.
She said to me that people had been posted bail and theyre seeing the judge today
DeleteI hate to be an asshole but didn't Obama make an executive order that the government can detain anyone for no reason for as long as they want that's why america is making FEMA camps.
ReplyDeleteI thought that was Bush..
DeleteNo. That's with non-citizen combatant terrorists who aren't entitled to due process, which is why they are being held indefinitely in Guantanamo Bay. Yes, it was George W. Bush.
DeleteIt was Bush!
DeleteThey are doing all they can to censor ALL news of this on all Media.
ReplyDeleteThere is no more clear sign that they know they are in the wrong here.
Good luck!
You're fighting for ALL of Humanity!!
Thank you!
I called the sheriff's office just now and was informed they all bonded out that wished too and only those who wanted to wait and see a judge stayed in. I'm in Ohio supporting'
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is lets fill the jail get as many as possible in there and then lets see if that dumbass hick of a sheriff can come up with the money to feed them all and explain why he has overcrowding of non violent protestors .. Bernie Sanders where are you ? We have a protest for you .
DeleteCalled and left a message. They need to know that the world is watching them and what is happening is wrong.
ReplyDeleteI just left a message. They need to know that the world is watching. What is happening is not right.
ReplyDeleteJust talked with the sheriff. Two guys still there on felony charges related to the arrest. Wouldn't tell me why. I just reminded them that, literally this time, the whole world is watching. Margot Kidder
ReplyDeleteToday three more warriors locked down. Morton County is charging them with felonies.
ReplyDeleteI'm calling from Italy to show our support to The 23 water protectors, but The recorded voice asks to dial lady 3 letters of inmate. Bring our love to those warriors, we admire you, you're right. Keep in fighting. In Lak'ech al a kin
ReplyDeleteMitake Oyasin! How is it, that the government gives our people little shitty pieces of land to live on, continually break the treaties, deny the basics for life's existence and attempt to quell news reports of their misdeeds? Leave what little land we have left ALONE!!
ReplyDeleteThe Morton Co. sheriff's department refused to take a complaint on a stolen vehicle at the Sacred Stone Camp due to their safety, yet they gather 50 armed plus officers to be present and arrest Peaceful protesters. They PROTECT and serve cause they are white and they are DAPL and refuse to protect and serve the NATIVES.
ReplyDeleteIt's been fascinating to watch the tactics evolve from Keystone and the rancher protest on Oregon to this situation. The company's tactics here are terrible.
ReplyDeletePLEASE CONTACT JAY SEKULOW ATTORNEY FOR THESE SORT OF THINGS !! http://aclj.org/jay-sekulow
ReplyDeleteIs the fact that they are being held related to the emergency law put in place? If so, I am happy to share information on international add standards of non-derogable rights under emergency law. tammy.pna@gmail.com ~~Tammy

ReplyDeleteHow many of you that are screaming about what the sheriff is doing actually read the article. He was ordered by the State Attorney General not to allow any non state licensed attorneys in. If anyone has committed any offence, it's the State Attorney General. But most states have licensing requirements for any attorney wishing to practice law in that state.
ReplyDeleteAho mitakuyepi,
ReplyDeleteThis Sheriff needs to read up on his law thoroughly. He cannot refuse anyone the right to their legal representation without just cause. If anyone needs to face arrest, it should this Sheriff himself. The question I put forward is:
Were warrants issued for the arrest of the protectors and the media members? If not, then those arrested should be released immediately on the grounds of wrongful arrest, regardless of the Sheriffs' opinion.
Sounds very much so to me that this Sheriff is in the pockets of the offending oil company.
To all the protectors and their supporters:
Wakan Tanka kici un.
New Zealand is watching.
Where are the Erin Brockovich's?
ReplyDeleteshame on those who hold protectionists of water right in carcinated access to the water of life is a human right!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis isn't even your land in the fist place. Where are the attorneys protecting the right of the tribe? Where are the attorneys protecting the water rights? To much chatter and not enough reality. where is the humanity in this at all.
