Hotevila delivery photos by Lillian Hill, Hopi. Lillian said, "Many thanks to our community volunteers for your efforts in coordinating, portioning, assembling and distributing over 250 food/supply boxes to the residents of Hotevilla Village. Thanks to everyday volunteer citizens local Mutual Aid efforts have been extremely helpful in assuring that our people have adequate food and supplies in order to limit travel outside of our villages. We hope the people of Hotevilla Village are happy with their care boxes, we took extra effort to ensure that the food was handled with love."

This week’s update from Navajo and Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief

Hi folks! My apologies on a delayed update! My last update was 11 days ago, and I reported then that we had broken the $1 million fundraising mark. Well we have now broken the $2 million mark, in good part due to a beautiful act of solidarity from our friends in Ireland, who remember the kindness shown to them by our Choctaw brothers and sisters, who sent them aid during the great potato famine in 1847. Thank you so much, Ireland!

I also have an update on food distributions. Last week, through use of your amazing donations, we were able to get $102,393.55 to Navajo and Hopi to provide food and water to Navajo and Hopi elders, immunocompromised, and families with children. Thank you!!!! This is in addition to the $65,758.79 in food and water from the week prior, and the $81,347.03 in food and water from two weeks before. Through bulk orders we are able to deliver food baskets that cost about $100 each that are designed to feed an entire household for two weeks so folks can successfully STAY HOME and help FLATTEN THE CURVE in our communities.

April was incredible in terms of our ability to help those in need on our two nations, and we look forward to an even stronger May. Our initial goal was to get $100,000 in food and water up here each week, but having met that goal, we are now shooting for the wildly optimistic goal of $200,000 per week. The team is up for the challenge! Thank you to the Vadon Foundation for a gift of $100,000 to help make this happen!

Thanks also today to the Sierra Club and the Rainforest Action Network for urging their members to give to our cause on Giving Tuesday”
