Three land defenders were arrested after construction was halted for a fifteen mile radius along the Arizona-Mexico border. Resistance to Trump’s double border wall is growing in the borderlands. Endangered species halted border wall construction before being arrested today. "We're trying to make it across the border. We're endangered species. We're going to go extinct if we can't find our mates," said a jaguar before being arrested. "This is jaguar country. There's endangered jaguar here." "There's only four of us," one of the endangered species said before the arrests, pointing out that it doesn't take a lot of people to make a difference. The land defenders halted a concrete pouring machine and a giant crane hauling border wall panels. Three endangered species were arrested for disorderly conduct. |

"Cochise County Sheriff's deputies arrested three people on the U.S.-Mexico border road on Monday after they crossed the county line to protest the construction of a border wall through the remote grasslands of the San Rafael Valley in Southern Arizona."

"Two weeks ago protesters began a tree sit in an ancient cottonwood tree to stop the Trump administration from cutting it down after federal border wall contractors destroyed three neighboring cottonwoods estimated to be up to 250 years old. The tree sit, the first such action to block border wall construction, is ongoing.
The San Rafael Valley is a crucial movement corridor for jaguars, ocelots, black bears, pronghorn and hundreds of bird species.
Jaguars are protected as endangered in the U.S. and Mexico. Recovery of a breeding population in the U.S. will require carefully planned reintroduction and cross-border conservation, including cooperation among governments, Tribes, communities, land users and public interest groups."
