The gathering began with a prayer song, followed by Doreen Manuel, aunt of Kanahus Manuel speaking. Beatrice Hunter followed with a heartfelt talk on the defense of Muskrat Falls.

SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, “Reconciling Sovereignties: Techniques of Authorizing ‘Consent’ on Indigenous Lands”
Throughout this gathering, filmmaker Doreen Manuel will be documenting the event and conducting interviews on behalf of the Yellowhead Institute. We will also have radio producers from Nuxalk Radio and will be livestreaming the event through Earth Cycles. Our communications team will also be recording minutes of the panels. Our intention is to use this documentation for Indigenous and human rights advocacy and a formal land defense human rights report. Before any statements are published, we will seek consent of participants. If you would not like to be recorded in any medium, please indicate this before you speak and we will respect your privacy.

The Tiny House Warriors and Secwepemc will also lead a delegation to travel to the Tiny House Warriors villages in Blue River and Moonbeam, Secwepemc Territory and learn more about how this group of Secwepemc land and water defenders struggle for land and self-determination on the ground to protect their territory from the Trans Mountain Pipeline.
Location: Blue River: Located near Clearwater, BC - approx. 1.5 hr drive north of
Kamloops; approx. 5 hr drive from Vancouver; the closest airport is in Kamloops, BC.
Schedule: Meet at 9.30am at Ramada Inn parking lot; Caravan to Blue River
Aim to arrive at Blue River by lunch-time
Lunch served at Blue River
Tiny House Warriors will lead delegation and discussion until 5pm
Some people may stay at Blue River, others may drive back to Kamloops. We will
work to make sure all of these options are available to people and coordinate rides.
