Red Warrior Society 'Solidarity with Palestinians' -- From the Banks of Wounded Knee Creek

As Lakota people of the Oceti Sakowin we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We know too well the struggle for self-determination and the fight to retain lands that have long been connected to our way of life, language, ceremonies and the blood of our people.

We have known for too long the struggle for communities to maintain identity and connection to lands as lands are forcefully taken and our people were killed while fighting to live. We see the blood of your people seeping into your sacred lands, the lands you have grown your fruit on, the lands you have watered your olive trees on for many generations. We see the continued fight for your ways of life, for your children, for your future, and for your identity.

Although we are not physically there with you, we see that the oppressor continues to cut you off from the lifeblood of the ocean. Yet they cannot diminish a greatness that the entire world sees.

The people of the Oceti Sakowin send you encouragement to continue your ongoing fight for freedom. We will continue to share your struggle, we will continue to boycott, divest, sanction, and to educate those who are unaware.

While we have been subjected to recognize the following components of occupation and oppression it is important to make these connections in the midst of colonizer, patriarchy power dynamics that will continue to perpetuate ongoing dynamics against which our community still struggle.

Limitation of movement. Limitation of food and water. Oppressor theft of land, water, and resources. Denial of basic humanity. Limitation of access to work, higher education, and medical care. Lack of access to representation in legal systems, court systems, and prison systems. They are bombing ambulances, hospitals, and schools, which shouldn’t be allowed in a war, but they still do.

As youth, listening and watching what’s happening in Gaza, a whole generation is facing consequences for actions they didn’t do. The children think about their future but they might not have a future.

We must remember that centuries ago, the U.S. military's goal was to eradicate Indigenous communities and lifeways by establishing the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1824. Two hundred years later, the U.S. is funding Israel’s military force to eradicate the Palestinians. Genocide is wrong, and it’s unacceptable.

We aren't ever going to be successful unless we come to understand that we have things in common; settler colonial dogma and a need for human rights for all Indigenous peoples around the world. We are one family with great diversity. When our elders took a stand at Wounded Knee in 1973, and also when our youth gathered thousands to stop DAPL in 2016, who showed solidarity? The Palestinians.

Today we stand with you Palestine. Our action is our prayer. From the banks of the Wounded Knee Creek, from the lands of the O’yuhpe, we declare our solidarity with Palestine.

In Solidarity,
Red Warrior Society
