Interior Sec Haaland, Praising Biden, Cut Off Like Everyone Else, at Indigenous Forum

Interior Sec. Deb Haaland, Laguna Pueblo, used her time at the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to cheerlead for President Biden, but like everyone else she was cut off at the three minute mark.

Haaland didn't mention that the Tohono O'odham and San Carlos Apache Nations have filed for a restraining order aginst her, or that she is promoting the lithium mine digging into the Paiute Massacre Site. She didn't mention that the Biden Administration is partnering with copper corporations to fight San Carlos Apache in court who are protecting Oak Flat.

Haaland didn't remind the UN that the US veto before the UN Security Council of a ceasefire in Gaza meant that the war crimes and genocide continued, killing mostly Palestinian babies, children and women.

Instead, Haaland told the United Nations that the Biden administration is upholding the government-to-government relationship with tribes and honoring the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Haaland said tribes are being "heard and seen," which is not what tribes struggling to protect their sacred lands and water say.

She said she was proud to work for the Biden administration. Haaland began a sentence about the Biden administration "elevating youths" when she was cut off.

This comes as Havasupai testified before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights that there was no consultation before the uranium mine began operating in the Grand Canyon now threatening their water supply.

Nearby Hualapai are fighting a lithium mine at their sacred spring. Bulldozers are smashing through ancient Tohono O'odham and San Carlos Apache ancient village sites for transmission lines, as Haaland pushes another fake green energy project taking wind energy from New Mexico to California.

Haaland's presentation came as the U.N. Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues began in New York on Monday.

It was not Haaland, but Indigenous women and youths protecting their homelands that were first recognized to speak -- including those from the Amazon in Brazil, and an Oglala Lakota Youth with the Global Indigenous Youth Caucus.

Environmental Racism and Genocide

During her presentation to the UN Permanent Forum, Haaland promoted Biden's 'Invest in America' agenda. During a recent visit to Arkansas, Haaland promoted this agenda, and failed to point out that the white phosphorus being used by Israel comes from the last remaining factory producing white phosphorus in south central Arkansas. The use of white phosphorus on civilians is a war crime.

Haaland also did not point out that Raytheon Missiles is opening a new missile factory in central Arkansas. Raytheon is among the top war profiteers benefiting from the genocide in Palestine. The population of south central region of Arkansas is more than 50 percent Black.
