Update on Sunday: Navajo Nation has 26 cases of coronavirus

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Thursday evening, Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer were informed by the Navajo Department of Health and Navajo Area IHS that the total number of positive cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus for members of the Navajo Nation has reached 14.

The majority of the 14 cases involve individuals who initially reported their symptoms to the Kayenta IHS Service Unit, and others who either reported to or were transported to or were treated at Chinle Health Care Facility, and Northern Navajo Medical Center. Health and emergency officials are taking every precaution to screen and isolate their family members and others. The Navajo Health Command Operations Center and Navajo Area IHS are in the process of determining if and how the cases relate.

Today we met with MP's from Spanish parliament, asking that they take action with BBVA, a Spanish bank that is invested in fossil fuel extraction on Turtle Island (DAPL and other pipelines). We asked that regulations be made for free and prior informed consent with indigenous nations and also transparency with their investments. I can say that this specific party in Spanish parliament, from my understanding is very new, but is also very progressive with stopping fracking and other destructions of Mother Earth. This isn't my normal course of taking action but I'm learning a lot and education is key in these fights.
So yeah. That was my day. Now I'm in Barcelona, two more days, one more show, and I'm heading home.
I ain't gonna lie, it's was very difficult being in the Spanish Congress knowing the history that has happened in the southwest, and all the other invaded territories they occupied, also the doctrine of discovery. But I've had good conversations with everyone I've talked with. Still, it's difficult.

Nataanii Nez Means on European Tour

Nataanii Nez Means, son of Gloria Grant Means of Chinle on the Navajo Nation and Lakota activist Russell Means, performed as a Hip Hop artist on the 11 country tour of Europe, with Rafael Gonzalez, Dakota from Minneapolis. With Waste Win Young, Dakota Lakota from Standing Rock, and Rachael Heaton, Muckleshoot from Washington State, water protectors from Standing Rock camps, urged divestment in Dakota Access Pipeline and fossil fuel extraction, investing in clean energy, and respect for Indigenous rights. While meeting with members of Spain's Parliament, Means urged respect and compliance with the U.N. Declaration of Rights for Indigenous Peoples, which requires free, prior and informed consent before entering the territories of Indigenous Peoples for development.

The Congress of Deputies of Spain, commonly referred to as simply the Congress of Deputies (Spanish: Congreso de los Diputados; Basque: Diputatuen Kongresua; Catalan: Congrés dels Diputats; Galician: Congreso dos Deputados) is the lower house of the Cortes Generales, Spain's legislative branch. It is located in the Palace of the Parliament (Plaza de las Cortes, Madrid).

It has 350 members elected by constituencies (matching Spanish provinces) by proportional representation using the D'Hondt method. Congressmen serve four-year terms. The President of the Congress of Deputies is the analogue to a speaker and presides over debates.

In the Congress, members of the Parliament from the political parties, or groups of parties, form parliamentary groups. Groups must be formed by at least 15 MPs, but a group can also be formed with only five MPs if the parties got at least 5% of the nationwide vote, or 15% of the votes in the constituencies in which they ran. Ok you all, had to walk a dozen miles off the Chuska mountains, walk through Bear Canyon, saw huge  mountain lion tracks, heard Bigfoot yelling his hello to the holy beings, ran a few kilometers after my rez mountain bike blew a tire, then carry my 50 pound back pack and walk the rest of the way with my chizzy underwear and socks needing a wash after a couple of weeks playing mountain man Jeremiah Yazzie, just to see the movie The Lone Ranger, all the while to give you all my review of the movie.

I give it SEVEN BURNT FRYBREADS out of 8 frybreads. This almost a quarter of a billion dollar slapstick "native" pirate of my beloved Canyon De Chelly and Monument Valley made me kinda sad. It was not funny, what I disliked about the movie was everything, its premise and its fantasy script of non-native writers who romanticized what probably they always wanted to write .,, "a western", all with spiritual Indian speak with spirituality, and made up history to make up for the use of native imagery and profit.

What saddened me the most was how Jay Silverheels tried his best to work as the first real native actor in a television series to promote his people. I admired and know he gave his greatest dedication in paving the way for future native screenwriters, actors, and producers, only to see his character Tonto reduced to a unfunny native redface character. What I hated the most was this incessant need to feed crushed corn to the dead bird on his head, only a native can do native humor. As I saw the credits roll I was amazed that Johnny Depp was first listed above everyone else as an executive producer, and how much incredible power he possessed in creating this movie's creative structure, it failed. As a native filmmaker it was obvious to me that Hollywood once again failed. Yes, yes, it is just a movie, but the ramifications of symbolism and interpretation will be recorded as true among America's non-native uneducated native history buffs, which is very dangerous for our future and perception of who we truly are today.
 
I'm glad our Dine didn't adopt Johnny Depp, whew. I know, I know, but you all know me by now, I say what I believe are my truths, it may not be real to others, but for myself I believe it to be. I could have made almost 225 million "The Rainbow Boy" movies and used real native actors and real native speakers. Anyways, I am still plugging away in completing my film.

LONG LIVE JAY SILVERHEELS!!! Thank you uncle/grandpa for your sincere sacrifice and dedication in being the first native actor in a television series, it must have been tough for you with the scriptwriters and directors who didn't understand what beautiful people we were then and now.

Now gotta wash my chizzies and head back to the forest and sit among the plants and animals and maybe make me a dead crow headdress to keep me company as KTNN was getting boring.
