CANNON BALL, North Dakota -- Kayaktivists from across the country will join in solidarity with local Standing Rock Water Protectors for a peaceful water demonstration to raise awareness of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Construction is currently under way the Dakota Access Pipeline in

What: Peaceful water demonstration in the Cannonball River against the Dakota Access Pipeline
Who: Standing Rock tribal members, allies, and tribal members from across the country.

Where: We will meet at the put in at the Cannonball River just off 1806 (at the bridge), 2 miles west of camp.
When: Saturday, August 20, 2016 9am
Visuals: A large gathering of kayakers, canoeists and other watercrafts with colorful banners. On the shore there will be hundreds of supporters holding signs and singing in solidarity. 
Background: Construction on the controversial Dakota Access pipeline first began on August 10th and is proposed to cross under the Missouri River just upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The number of protestors at the Camp of the Sacred Stones, which is resisting the pipeline, has swelled to nearly 1000 this week, with. at least 28 people arrested as part of nonviolent actions opposing the pipeline. Construction has now been delayed until August 24th when a federal court in Washington DC will rule on an emergency injunction to halt the project.

They just arrived overland, from southern Arizona and northern California at the same time! They will be live and on the air in the morning. For those of you who don't know about Earthcycles, Govinda has been broadcasting for grassroots struggles for the past 10 years. Earthcycles and Censored News broadcast live from AIM West; Acoma and Laguna Pueblo uranium summit; Havasupai uranium summit; Tohono O'odham border; Peltier and Boarding School Tribunals in Green Bay, WI; the Mother Earth Conference in Bolivia; and for five months on the Longest Walk northern route in 2008. We were live on Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara in North Dakota.
Michelle Cook, Navajo and recent law graduate, joined us on the border, and in Bolivia. She flew to Bolivia from New Zealand, where she was learning from Maoris on a Fulbright scholarship. Now, we have relays for our broadcast in Europe and elsewhere online. It is grassroots, so please give them a helping hand in Standing Rock.
