UN Expert's Report on Dakota Access Pipeline -- Will it make any difference?
The UN Expert spent three days at Standing Rock and issued a summary. The question is: 'Will it make a difference? Will there be any result?' (The UN report refers to the water protectors as 'protesters.')
The UN Expert's general summary concludes with, "I call upon the United States government to intervene to promote and protect the human rights affirmed in both the ICCPR and the UN Declaration to curb the discriminatory, retaliatory actions against the Indigenous peoples gathered in North Dakota and those being victimized in response to this escalation of violence."
Time will reveal whether there is any result.
A far more comprehensive, and detailed, account of Standing Rock Camp and the abuse by militarized police and DAPL, was issued by the camp's attorneys, and submitted to Norway's Bank urging divestment. The report is by Red Owl Legal Collective/National Lawyer's Guild: http://martinezlaw.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/20161108-DNB-Bank-Divestment-Letter-ROLC.pdf
