Search ends as missing B.C. filmmaker, activist and mother Twyla Roscovich found dead

The search for Twyla Roscovich, a 38-year-old B.C. filmmaker, activist and mother, has come to an end.

Roscovich’s body was found earlier this week, according to posts by friends and family on her Facebook page.

“We are deeply saddened to inform everyone that our dear Twyla’s body has been found,” the post begins. “No foul play is suspected. We request that her family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Roscovich had been living in Sointula on Malcolm Island and had left on Sept. 6 for Vancouver Island before being reported missing on Tuesday this week. Her car was found in Campbell River, with friends expressing concern that she may have gone into the woods to camp and run into trouble.

Dear Friends and Allies,  This November 6 through 17, 2017, the Women's Earth and Climate Action Network will take action and advocate on the ground in Bonn, Germany during the the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP23 Climate Talks. Since the organization's founding, WECAN International has been participating in the UNFCCC climate process as a voice for climate justice, gender equality, Indigenous rights, Rights of Nature and meaningful, bold action on climate change.  As a central facet of WECAN's yearly work at the UNFCCC, we are honored to support and collaborate with many frontline, grassroots and Indigenous women leaders in creating opportunities for them to speak out and present their vital struggles, stories and calls to action during the COP - thus engaging with the policy makers whose actions and inaction on climate change impacts their lives, communities and homelands on a daily basis. Learn more about past efforts here. As we look to the 2017 COP23 in Bonn, WECAN International reaffirms our commitment to ceaseless effort to bring women's voices to the forefront - and unyielding action to expose the roots of climate chaos and help usher in just climate solutions commensurate to the level of crisis we face. As an organization with an international focus and network, but a United States base location, we will also continue to stand with many U.S. allies to send an urgent message to the world that, even in the face of a climate-denying and reckless U.S. administration, many people across the country can, and will, stand up for climate justice, sustainability solutions, and systemic change. Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature Events

WECAN is honored to co-organize the Rights of Nature Tribunal and other Rights of Nature events as a member of the Executive Committee for the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature. November 7 & 8: International Rights of Nature Tribunal  (public event) Join diverse allies from around the globe for the 4th International Rights of Nature Tribunal - a unique, citizen-created initiative which gives people from around the world the opportunity to testify publicly on destruction of the Earth and their communities, while advancing an alternative legal framework for justice, and living in harmony with the world and each other. The Tribunal will feature internationally renowned lawyers and leaders for planetary justice, who will hear cases addressing issues such as climate change, destruction of the Amazon rainforest, international trade deals, lignite mining, fracking, mega dams and other environmental violations, and offered judgments and recommendations for the Earth's protection based on the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth. Osprey Orielle Lake of WECAN will serve as a judge in this year's tribunal. Water Defenders Relentless in Tennessee "Mni wiconi!" shouted the water protectors, who moved to an activist camp in Sutton after spending months at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. Mni Wiconi means 'water is life' in Lakota. 'Who do you protect?' they shouted, directing it at the troopers, some of whom are on a special company detail for which the Kinder Morgan pays the state.
