Wikileaks released new cables over the weekend, revealing more of the United States obsession with Bolivian President Evo Morales. The US spy calls it the "Axis of Evo."
In the new cables, the US also discusses the purported attempt to assassinate President Morales.
The cables previously released show the United States growing concern over President Morales' popularity. Those cables discuss the possible "unexpected exit" of President Morales, and include a list of possible successors, including Indigenous leaders.
In cables from Bolivia and Chile, the US expresses concern over the rise of Indigenous Peoples and resistance, as Indian people uphold their land rights.
The US, Spain and Brazil, in the cables, express concern over the future of exploitative interests, including dams and oil and gas, in relation to Indigenous Peoples protecting Mother Earth and upholding their rights.
The New Year's weekend release of cables include a 1990 cable which is an offer of friendship from Saddam Hussein to the US. There were also new cables on international whaling released over the weekend.
