MONTREAL -- Protectors of the people, land and water shared their victories, and struggles -- from the far north in Canada, to the southern border in the United States, and beyond to Africa -- during this morning's session of the Western Mining Action Network conference in Montreal.

Speaking on stopping Shell in Alaska and Gwich'in now fighting drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and Canada. "All the major companies have been trying to drill there." The fight against lithium is a fight for humanity.

    Fighting mining in a green zone area, protected for the production of maple syrup. 

Fighting and winning, battling gold mining with the legal case in Southern California.

RENO, Nev.— Nevada Gold Mines has temporarily suspended plans to expand the Long Canyon Mine in northeast Nevada and says it will conduct hydrologic studies to address concerns that the expansion would dry up nearby springs.

Western Mining Action Network Biennial Conference in Montreal Today

Western Mining Action Network is excited to announce that the 2024 Biennial Conference will be held in person this year in Montreal, Quebec. Applications now open!

Titled Mining Justice in the Climate Crisis (Justice minée en temps de crise climatique), the Conference will convene 150-200 people from mining-affected communities and allies working in legal aid, scientific support, and environmental NGO's for cross-cultural knowledge sharing; elevating Indigenous voices; leadership development; and training in environmental advocacy and democratic organizing.

With support from the local grassroots group Coalition Québec meilleure mine (Quebec Coalition for a better mining framework) the Biennial Conference will increase awareness of mining in Quebec that is threatening local communities, while addressing the social and environmental impacts of mining across the US and Canada. The Conference is for frontline communities affected by mining and the allies working with them.
