"Our legacy demands that we warrior up -- that we warrior up for peace, that we warrior up for the future." -- Casey Camp-Horinek, Ponca

"Indigenous rights are a climate solution," Casey Camp-Horinek, Ponca, said, as the Global Women's Assembly for Climate Justice began Monday, which is featuring the voices of 125 women.

Casey spoke of the things that are brought forward from the past, from the ways, and shared sitting in the earth lodge this morning in preparation for today's discussion. The earth lodge, cool on a warm day and safe during a tornado, she said, is a sustainable way of living that "Indigenous Peoples always have in our minds and hearts, because we follow what the land tells us to follow."

The women gathered this morning and talked about their children, talked about the unborn, and talked about what they hope for the future.

"Energy follows intent. We can put our intentions out there to change things, but we are in a critical moment in history, and we have to understand that our legacy demands that we warrior up -- that we warrior up for peace, that we warrior up for the future," Casey said.

"We do it strong, and we do it together."

Featured during the Assembly on Monday were speakers from South Africa, Fiji, Ecuador, Nigeria and more who discussed intersecting frameworks and strategies to defend the Earth, including:

-- Stopping fossil fuels and false solutions in order to tackle the root causes of climate change
-- Uplifting women’s leadership in protecting forests and reforestation
centering feminist frameworks and expertise in the fight for climate justice
-- Ensuring robust and quality climate finance.

"Speakers also emphasized the importance of bold climate action at this year’s COP30 in Brazil, while offering a wide range of solutions to the climate crisis, even as democracies worldwide face threats," WECAN said today.
