Dear Friends of No More Deaths/ No Más Muertes,

Our son, Scott Warren, a long-time humanitarian aid volunteer with No More Deaths, is on trial for federal felony charges - for providing food, water and beds to two migrants - that could send him to prison for 20 years. As his parents, we are, of course, terrified at the prospect that our son might be imprisoned. Scott is a kind, compassionate and generous man who feels compelled to address the tragedy of death and suffering unfolding daily in the very desert where he lives.

As Scott said on the stand when asked why he does his volunteer aid work, “In one sense it feels a little choiceless. How can you not do that, if you live in a place where people are dying around you by the dozens every year, how could you not respond?”

Scott, like the hundreds of other humanitarian aid volunteers in the border region, is not motivated by some hidden political agenda, as the government asserts in their effort to criminalize humanitarian aid, but by compassion, empathy, respect for the lives of others and common human decency.

Please support Scott, No More Deaths, and humanitarian aid volunteers everywhere in their struggle to reduce misery and suffering in the world and so they can continue to do their lifesaving work.

If you are able to help, please give here.

With much gratitude and in community,
Pam and Mark Warren

P.S. We thank you for your ongoing support of Scott and us during this very difficult time and for standing with us against the criminalization of humanitarian aid work.
