It is feared imminent repression against teachers' movement in Mexico
On Friday July 1, 2016 Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, secretary of federal government stated publicly that the federal government actruaría "soon" to dislodge the seedlings of magisterial movement that are in various roads in the country, particularly in the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. It is feared that the Mexican authorities to carry out repressive operations against the teachers' protests that could be similar to those that occurred in Nochixtlan, Oaxaca consequences.
Acts:
Despite maintaining a dialogue with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) on the conflict that has caused the educational reform promoted by the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto, the Mexican federal government requires the removal of the plants that It has the magisterial movement on several roads in the country and preventing the passage of goods owned by transnational corporations, however, instead of giving a similar signal and withdraw troops and police elements of the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca increase their ranks. Nor they have released CNTE leaders jailed on various charges supposedly unrelated to the movement although the time of his arrest coincides with the intensification of the teachers' protests, which suggests that there is a political background in apprehensions. In addition, they refuse to discuss the content of the "Education Reform" which has been the focal point and key this conflict, and although not empowered the executive to approve or abrogate laws, does have powers and mechanisms to propose and negotiate changes to the current legislation.
The Mexican government agreed to sit down and talk only once they had repressed the magisterial movement on June 19 in Nochixtlan, Oaxaca violently and use of lethal force which resulted in 11 dead, 45 wounded and 23 arrested.
On July 1, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, government secretary, said in relation to protests and sit-ins that "time has run out" and that the government would act "soon" to dislodge the seedlings that are on the roads. This statement seems to announce evictions through the use of public force, and likely acts of repression similar to those that occurred in Nochixtlan feared.
