SAN CRISTOBAL de LAS CASAS, Chiapas -- (September 10, 2021) Today at 6 a.m. the Zapatista Aerial Delegation "La Extemporánea" left the Caracol Jacinto Canek, in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, aboard four buses, bound for Mexico City, to fly from there to Vienna, where they will begin the second phase of the Journey for Life in the renowned Unsubmissive Europe, Slumil K'ajxemk'op.
There have been many difficulties faced by the Zapatistas to reach this moment. Racism and absurd bureaucracy in the Mexican institutions at the time of obtaining passports, innumerable obstacles on the part of the European Union to be able to enter in the context of the many restrictions in the middle of a new wave of contagions by the Covid-19 pandemic, the preparations, the costs, the extraordinary logistics ...
"It's crazy, this trip in the middle of a pandemic", it was said so many times. And yes, a madness that inspires, that teaches, that will remain engraved in the minds and hearts of many of us. At a time when the world is closing in on itself, when death is on the prowl, when fear paralyzes, when intolerance is dressed as sanity and control as sanitary sanity, the Zapatistas face all the obstacles and go out, with all the necessary security measures, to defy fear, paralysis and death itself. Journey for Life in the most difficult moment, but also the most necessary.
In the caravan travels the "Ixchel-Ramona Militia Section", composed of 39 militia women, all of them very young, in charge of security, of being part of the "Listen and Speak" groups and of forming the soccer teams that will challenge with their joy the feminine teams in the distant continent. Among them, the girls Defensa Zapatista and Esperanza Zapatista.
And coordinating the trip, Subcomandante Insurgente Moisés, head and spokesman of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.
Tonight, the Air Delegation will arrive in Mexico City. Tomorrow, at 6:30 p.m., the Maritime Delegation, "Squadron 421", will arrive back in Mexico City, after its 50-day voyage aboard the ship La Montaña, which began on May 2 of this year, and two and a half months touring Unsubmissive Europe. And this coming Monday, September 13, in two different flights, the Air Delegation will depart from Mexico City airport to Vienna, where it will be received by European organizations and collectives, thus beginning this new phase of the Journey for Life.
