Sacred Hopi masks sold in Paris auction, court gives go ahead

Auction sells Hopi masks in Paris for nearly $1 million
(Reuters) - An auction of ancient masks revered as sacred by a Native American tribe fetched more than 750,000 euros on Friday, disappointing prominent opponents of the sale after a French court ruled it should go ahead.
Hopi said earlier that the items were under investigation and likely stolen.

I recommend linking the NPR story in place of reuters, as it does not have images of the masks, as they should not be viewed by the public.
