Protecting Sacred Ceremonies: Winnemem Wintu

Brothers and Sisters,
(CALIFORNIA) Our relations the Winnemem Wintu, whose land was 90% drowned out by the building of the Shasta Dam, are trying to hold their Puberty Ceremony this July up on the McCloud. They need privacy on the river during the ceremony so that they are not interrupted by speed boats and drinking.
Below is a video clip from the last Puberty Ceremony in 2006. This is the kind of treatment that the Winnemem can expect if we cannot convince the Forest Service to close the river for them.

VIDEO: Peabody Coal Protest in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - A caravan of social activists traveling across the country made a weekend stop in St. Louis. While a protest against a giant coal company headquartered here brought them to town, their causes were many. "Resist, resist, raise up your fist!" was just one of the chants heard on Market Street, from the 100 or so demonstrators marching in front of the headquarters of Peabody Energy. Most of the protesters had never been to St. Louis until three big buses brought them, but it turned out, for some of them, it felt familiar.
