MNN. Sept. 9, 2013. The Indian Trust Fund was set up in 1704. In 1867 and 1876 the Corporations of Canada and US were set up under Admiralty Law of the Seas and illegally placed on our land. Canada made itself the illegal trustee of our funds and calls giving us a few cents of our own money “sharing revenue from Indigenous resources”. Canada covers its debt from the ever growing $390 trillion Indian Trust Fund.

A meeting took place in 2004 between Indigenous lawyer Art Manual and Naomi Klein and Wall Street’s Standard and Poors.  Poors is the credit agent that issues Canada’s top notch AAA rating to assure investors that the country can pay its debt. Indigenous people, land,  resources and funds are Canada’s economy. Poors agreed. “Sure, the entire debt is owed to you, but what army will enforce it? How are you going to get it from us?”

Instead of paying it, Canada has developed plans to “eliminate” the Indigenous obstacle, with the help of their incorporated band/tribal council and national “Injun” sell-outs.  

Bankers don’t want to come out of their high rise boardrooms to meet with us in the bush to talk about paying their full debt to us. 

In 2005 we objected to various mega projects like the Northern New York power grid and St. Lawrence Seaway expansion on our land. We sent copies of the objections to the stock exchanges of the world telling them that we are the natural people who never ceded our land and resources anytime anywhere on Great Turtle Island. Thus anyone raising money by putting up our land and resources as collateral for investment is committing fraud. Stock exchanges are bound to protect their investors. The NYS energy grid and Seaway expansion have not taken place.

Johns Hopkins Professor's Blog Shut Down on NSA Spying

Matthew Green, cryptography professor at Johns Hopkins University, said his blog on NSA spying was shut down on university servers today, Monday, Sept. 9, 2013.

"I received a request from my Dean this morning asking me to remove all copies of my NSA blog post from University servers. The post is still up on Blogger, but a local University mirror of my blog was shut down," Green said on Twitter today.

While most of the information will be a revelation for those who understand cryptography -- everyone will understand this: The NSA has a clear channel for Skype. Everyone was fooled about Skype's claims for privacy.

As for the NSA cracking encryption, Green says, " ... All of this is a long way of saying that I was totally unprepared for today's bombshell revelations describing the NSA's efforts to defeat encryption. Not only does the worst possible hypothetical I discussed appear to be true, but it's true on a scale I couldn't even imagine. I'm no longer the crank. In as second case of censorship, EcoWatch writer Lauren Berlekamp said Facebook removed an event, the March Against Monsanto. The event promoted a march in St. Louis, Missouri, where the biotech giant is headquarted.

Leonard Peltier's Statement on Indigenous Rights Tribunal

My dear friends and family,

There is a lot being said about the scheduled “Leonard Peltier International Tribunal on the Abuse of Indigenous Human Rights" on October 2-4, 2013, on the Oneida Reservation in Oneida/Green Bay, WI.  I want to express support for and appreciation to my team for all of the hard work they are putting in to make this a documented historical event.  My team and I feel the time has come to address the many years of abuse suffered by Indigenous people all over the world.  We cannot afford to sit back and wait for justice and equal treatment for our people.  We cannot sit back and wait for change and “hope” that conditions will get better.  We have to get involved in making that change happen.

We have to develop the resources for our children and grandchildren using education as a tool.  We need Indigenous doctors working side by side with our Medicine men using traditional knowledge to heal our communities.  We need Indigenous attorneys who aren’t motivated by money to represent the overwhelming number of Natives who are locked in prison cells.  We need Indigenous teachers who are willing to  encourage, support and motivate our many gifted and talented children.  We have to take charge of our destiny. 

The goal of our Tribunal is to document our many struggles with the U.S. government.  The government was involved in outlawing every freedom we valued, from the way we talked to the Creator with our ceremonies to the way we parented our children.  Don’t ever forget the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental damage that came from ripping  Native children as young as 3 and 4 years old from the arms of their parents and putting them into the hands of cold, hard matrons in the boarding schools.  Men who normally provided for their families by fishing and hunting found themselves on the wrong side of the law and hunger became common.  Acres and acres of beautiful gardens in Native homelands were destroyed for the harvest of uranium flowing through the veins of our Sacred mother earth. 

I am a prime example of what happens when you try to stand up and protect the elders, babies and communities from corruption and disruption of our sacred way of life.  The very justice system, supposedly designed to uphold the laws of our land, will use any method necessary to get the outcome they want.  Intimidating witnesses, manufacturing  or withholding evidence, and judge shopping are all tactics used to achieve a conviction.  

These conditions are unacceptable.  While the current Administration has done more for our people than any in recent history, we can not stand idly by.  We must be involved with bringing about the change we need.  If we don’t demand accountability from the very government entrusted with our future, who will?  If not us, then who?  If not now, then when??

We as Indigenous people have always supported each other.  We have a history of Native trade between Nations in all four directions.  We didn’t create or recognize borders.  We communicated internationally.  That is the goal we now have in front of us.  We want to re-establish that relationship.  As Indigenous peoples, we must never forget that we are all related.  The time has come for us to come together again, to mend the sacred hoop that forever keeps us as one mind in one family.  Let no man divide us forever.  Please  join us as we begin the healing process. 

I am very humbled that this Tribunal has been named after me.  I promise to do my very best to be worthy of this honor.

The Denver Russell Means Honoring Committee is working on a series of events to commemorate the life of Russell Means and honor him as a cultural, political, artistic visionary American Indian Leader. Russell Means was an Oglala Lakota patriot, a leader of the American Indian Movement and the Republic of Lakotah and he was described during his life as ‘the most famous American Indian of the 20^th century’. Renowned scholar and writer, Vine Deloria, Jr., said “we should cherish this man as one of our greatest people.”

Russell began his journey to the spirit world of his ancestors on October 22, 2012, at his home in Porcupine, Pine Ridge Sioux Indian Reservation, Lakota Territory (South Dakota). In his life, Means took on many roles including a revolutionary indigenous political visionary, a traditional Lakota chief, a spiritual leader of the Sun Dance, author, artist and internationally known film actor (Last of the Mohicans”) and musician (“The Radical,” “Electric Warrior”). He was also trailblazer in calling for total immersion education for indigenous students.

On November 7 – 10, 2013, Russell’s family, friends and allies will host Mitakuye Oyasin – Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Russell Means, a series of events in Denver to remember and to honor the vast contributions of Russell Means in both the indigenous and non-indigenous world. The Committee is working on several events that include:

• A Gala fundraising dinner with special guest entertainment to promote the creation of the “Russell Means Library” on the Pine Ridge Sioux Indian Reservation to continue Russell’s tireless efforts to educate the public on indigenous peoples treaty rights on Saturday November 9;
• A public honoring for Russell Means and rally on Sunday November 10
• A multi-day political symposium at the University of Colorado at Denver reflecting on the political impact of Russell Means’ life and work;
• An art exhibition to display some of Russell’s most famous painting and etchings, and will include a signing by Russell’s wife, Pearl of his final book, “If You’ve Forgotten the Names of the Clouds, You’ve Lost your Way”.
• A film series, showcasing the films in which Russell acted. This will include a series of panels featuring fellow actors, directors and academic/cultural commentators.

The Committee anticipates that representatives from several Tribes as well as international and nationally known and respected political and humanitarian leaders will participate on panels, present speeches or artistic presentations or simply be in attendance.

In honor of Russell, I was searching for some of my photos of Russell, and instead found this, which seems a good way to honor him on this day.
It is from Oct. 2004, and an article I wrote when the Columbus Day protest was placed on the terror watch list. It was absurd of course, and the sort of thing Russell always reveled in when absurdities became public. " ... The global terrorist 'Security Watch' listed the Afghan vote, Iraq rebels, Pakistan violence, Bosnian Serbs and Australian politics as the top five risks for Oct. 10.
'Native Americans Protest Columbus Day,' was number six and even beat out 'Russia, Iran close to deal on spent nuclear fuel.'
The terrorist security watch article appeared after American Indians and their supporters held a peaceful protest in downtown Denver and blocked the Columbus Day Parade on Oct. 9. Denver police arrested, charged and released 205 adults and 25 children, with no incidences of violence."
In one of his powerful talks, Russell spoke of Obama and Palestine.
Russell said, "Every policy the Palestinians are now enduring was practiced on the American Indian."
