Join the Longest Walk in Pennsylvania

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- The Longest Walk Northern Route runners are crossing the West Virginia border today, with a special event planned for the walk into Pennsylvania on Route 22 at midday on Wednesday, June 11. The upcoming special events include a prayer vigil for Leonard Peltier on June 28. The northern and southern routes merge and walk into Washington D.C. on July 11. There is a cultural survival summit July 8 -- 11, with concerts planned for July 11 -- 13.

The signing ceremony for the Declaration is to take place on July 8-9, 2008, at Greenbelt Park (campground) (301-344-3944) (174 campsites available), Maryland, 12 miles North of Washington, D.C., 2 days prior to the conclusion of The Longest Walk, when many Elders and Nations from around the world will be present.
Purpose: To provide for the unification, protection and self-determination of all Indigenous Sovereign Nations under international law, to shelter all traditional indigenous human beings, to enable us to maintain our duty as stewards of the land and all its natural resources for the benefit of all generations yet to come and to educate all humans in our traditional ways.

Photo: Luv the Mezenger taken into custody by Columbus, Ohio, police. Police attacked the Longest Walk Northern Route, as walkers walked the prayer near downtown Columbus. Police pointed a taser between the eyes of Michael Lane, Menominee, who arrived with his Maori wife and children from New Zealand. Longest Walk children were terrorized by Columbus police who threatened that the children would be taken into custody by social services. Luv was thrown to the ground handcuffed and taken into custody as Luv tried to distract police from tasering Michael. Luv was issued a summons, placed in the paddy wagon and then released. Luv and Long Walker Marie Littlemoon sustained minor injuries, cuts and brusies, from the police. Ohio police claimed that the walkers were a protest and denied it was a prayer walk.
