VANCOUVER, COAST SALISH TERRITORIES – This morning Port of Metro Vancouver staff and security responded with physical force when 6 Santa Clauses arrived at their offices to deliver sacks of coal to the offices of the Port of Metro Vancouver, along with thousands of peoples’ wishes urging the port to say ‘no’ to a new coal terminal in Surrey. 

Six activists from Rising Tide Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories (dressed as Santa Claus) entered the Port Metro offices delivered coal to port staff, and read out public comments submitted to the port as part of a 30-day review of the Fraser Surrey Docks Environmental Impact Assessment.

Algonquin’s land protection camps forces Quebec to Agree to a Process to Protect Sensitive Zones from Logging: Next Step Implementation of Landmark Co-Management/Revenue Sharing Agreements

Kitiganik, Algonquin Territory (Dec. 17, 2013) – After community members of the Barriere Lake First Nation established a land protection camp to protest clear-cut logging on sensitive areas of their land, Quebec’s Ministry of Natural Resources has agreed to respect a previously negotiated process to harmonize forestry operations with the community’s traditional activities. Called the “measures to harmonize” process it involves field visits by Barriere Lake Algonquins to the proposed cut block areas and identification of buffer zones of various sizes to protect cultural sites and ecological areas.

VALLEJO, CA. - Sacred Sites Protection & Rights of Indigenous Tribes announces the arrival of the Spiritual Walkers of the Longest Walk 4 in Vallejo , California . The Longest Walk 4 will be at Sogorea Te, Native American Sacred Site located in Glen Cove on Dec. 18, time to be announced.
Chochenyo/Ohlone Activist Corrina Gould, Organizer of the Committee to Save Sogorea Te/Protect Glen Cove, held a spiritual occupation at the sacred site that began on Sunday, April 14, 2011   and continued   for 109 days.  This was done for the preservation and protection of the ancestors and for the preservation of sacred land.  A community show of support for the Longest Walk 4 at Sogorea Te is requested and appreciated. Michael Lane and Sharon Heta of the Longest Walk 4 will be providing a discussion. Potluck dishes and monetary donations are appreciated and welcomed.
The Longest Walk 4: Return to Alcatraz was initiated by those on the original The Longest Walk in 1978. It began on July 15, 2013 in Washington D.C. and will arrive at Alcatraz on Dec. 21, 2013. The purpose of this Walk will be to reaffirm the heart of Traditional Tribal Sovereignty rooted in Ceremony and land based spiritual relationships. SAN FRANCISCO -- Bill Means, Lakota, speaks on the importance of Indian Treaties, and the history of International Indian Treaty Council at the United Nations. Means describes the movement since the 1970s and its beginnings on Standing Rock Indian Nation, located in North Dakota and South Dakota.
"We soon became involved in the worldwide Indigenous movement," said Means, after the establishment as a NGO at the United Nations.
Bill Means describes how as the movement grew, various political forces wanted to use Indigenous Peoples for their own agendas, including the capitalists, socialists and communists. However, the movement maintained its independence.
Means said the time came when it was necessary to challenge the United Nations to impart an Indigenous world view.
Bill Means is the brother of Russell Means and Ted Means.
