Ben Carnes is fasting in Lafayette Park across from the White House in solidarity with freedom for Leonard Peltier. Peltier is a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians who has been held as a political prisoner of the Government of the United States of America for over 33 years.
Carnes, Choctaw from Oklahoma, speaks on Censored Blog Radio, while fasting for justice for Leonard Peltier outside the White House. Wanbli also joins the show live by phone with more details on Peltier's case and the appeal to Obama for freedom for Peltier. Carnes and Wanbli speak of FBI misconduct, assassination attempts on Peltier, the beating of Peltier in a Pennsylvania prison in 2008 and more than 500 years of genocide for Indian people. Calling for clemency, Wanbli said Obama promised Peltier's release during his campaign. On today's show, the music is by Keith Secola, with poet Cleo Apache, recorded live at the Havasupai Gathering to Halt Uranium Mining in the Grand Canyon by Earthcycles.
Wanbli said, "Carnes is standing there in fast and in prayer for 7 days in the hopes of gaining attention of the President of the United States of America to the plight of Leonard. During his fast he will not take food or water and he will remain in a prayerful attitude for the next 7 days. Those who make stands to fight injustice such as Ben is doing should have all of our respect and prayers. There are many who make smoke and kick up dust but few who actually have the will to make a stand such as this."
Wanbli said Obama could see Carnes if he would look out the window. Carnes began his fast Saturday and will continue to fast through Sept. 12. Amnesty International has already called for the immediate release of Peltier.
CW Gayle, Choctaw, thanked Carnes. "Halito! Ben. Many years ago my friend Rocque Duenas was standing vigil for Leonard in the very place you are. Rocque was a tribal fisherman in Washington, this was 1978. You carry the torch," Gayle said in a message.
UPDATE:
I wanted to announce that on Wednesday afternoon, I ceased the liquid portion of my fast due to dehydration. I had taken that as far as I could without endangering my health. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, when I relieved my self, I experienced a burning sensation and around Noon Wednesday, I began to feel as if my kidneys were tightening up. I made an attempt to contact a physician, but after a period of time with receiving a response.
At 2:40 PM (Eastern), I consumed some liquids to hydrate myself. It was a promise I made to Chief Tayac when he visited me at Lafayette Park. He told me that day that I needed to hydrate myself. He said, “You are a Chief! Don’t you dare hit the ground! There are a lot of people depending upon you to be here for them, and if you die what good would that serve them?”
I assured him that when my body told me that I was beginning to have problems, I would take care of myself.
Still, I will continue to fast without food until 8:45 AM Saturday. I can assure you that Leonard would appreciate and respect this decision. He has suffered so much pain and loss of allies and relatives, that it would only grieve him had I continued and possibly caused irreparable harm to my health.
My personal prayer will continue on, and I will continue to conduct myself in a honorable and respectful manner befitting my position. I knew that when I decided to publicly announce to that I am a Sun Dance Chief and would be taking this course of action. I would open myself up to criticisms, but that in itself is a sacrifice I willingly accepted. And there has been none, just messages of respect and support. It was never my intention to promote myself, but to show my love and support for my Sun Dance brother.
I had contacted Arvol Looking Horse about the possibility of coming to DC. He could not since he already had an earlier commitment, but he supported what I was doing and that he would support me through his prayers from over there. I am very thankful to have those prayers from the Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe in this way.
I know that there are many more people who have joined in this fast as an act of solidarity for me and for Leonard. This simple course of action has aroused so much supportive action from around the world. It has done so much more than if we had tried to have everyone come to DC.
Many of you are organizing in your communities and creating so much awareness everywhere and that is so important.
The results of this prayer and sacrifice may not be immediately, I feel something is taking place on a larger spiritual level and we will need to keep that in mind in all that we do for Leonard. We know that we will prevail, and it would have been difficult without your support.Send your cards and letters to Leonard.

MNN. Sep. 4, 2009. In 1944, before WWII was over, some British and US financiers met at Bretton Woods in New Hampshire. They wanted to set up a world military, financial and economic order with an international currency under the control of a few bankers. The Russians wanted gold to be the asset because there was only so much of it and it could hold everybody in check. The Russians and Eastern Europeans left when they rejected having the US dollar imposed on them. Plans were being made to drop the atomic bomb on Japan to show everybody that the US was the boss.
The US guaranteed the dollar through the theft of vast Indigenous resources. We had to be kept in the dark because nothing on, below or above the ground of Great Turtle Island was ever surrendered by us. Militaries were set up throughout the world to steal the resources of other Indigenous.
The IMF, World Bank, World Trade Organization, World Court and UN were set up at this time. They were supposed to uphold human rights and stop aggression between states. The UN became a tool of the US which systematically violated the victories of WWII. Washington backed its might by setting up military bases and aircraft carriers around the globe, ready to dispatch atomic weaponry and long-distance air strikes against anyone that doesn’t cooperate with them.There are more than 750 US military bases worldwide.In 1971 the US dollar was taken off the gold standard. Economic growth depended on warfare and consumerism. The banks and government could print unlimited amounts of dollars because its value is based on their say so backed by military strength. Money and the economy could be manipulated at will. Warswere made easier to fund.
The balance of payments measures payments between countries. Foreign central banks were forced to take US Treasury Bonds as if they were as good as gold. They now hold $4 trillion of these bogus bills in their international reserves to back their own currencies. These loans financed most of the US government’s domestic debt for over 30 years.
This parasitic and oppressive system is based on one big consumer [US], financed by a growing debt, using one currency [US]. The problem is the US makes too little and spends too much. They import more than they export. The proceeds are deposited into foreign central banks. These banks are then forced to use vouchers called US Treasury bills, which are not being honored. The pressure causes these countries to charge more for their exports. They can’t compete on the world markets. Businesses fail and people are put out of work.
Once the people took back their economy and Indigenous people resisted the theft of our resources, the global capitalist economy began to crumble.
Some countries decided that new financial institutions are needed. US overspending is forcing countries to set up a domestic currency and another for international trade and investments.
In June 2009 China, Russia, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, India, Pakistan, Mongolia and Brazil met to discuss an alternative to the dollar. They refuse to keep subsidizing the US economy and military.
The world’s central banks want to avoid adding more dollars to their reserves which finances more US debt spending and the military that is ready to pounce on them.
China made deals with Argentina and Brazil to use the renminbi rather than the dollar, sterling or euros. Malaysia is using the renminbi to avoid causing US military action against Islamic countries including Palestine. China is creating its own reserve currency.
The US is now the world’s largest debtor. The scheme is to invade, for example, Iraq, destroy the country and rebuild it through loans. Iraq must pay for it by giving up its resources and allowing a colonial band council government to be set up. Then the interest rate is raised and taxes increased so the country is drained of resources and wealth and comes under foreign control. They are forced to sell off their public utilities and companies to private US interests.
The invaders and their descendants have profited from the theft and gouging of Indigenous resources. US economic and military domination is ending. They can’t live off the savings and impoverishment of others using its recycled dollars backed by military might.
Soon the US dollar will not be worth the paper they’re printed on. The out-of-date neo cons want to own us and the world. They don’t want us to become the independent decision makers as our ancestors where everybody takes responsibility for the environment, lives in dignity and respect. This is a time of great changes, brothers, sisters, friends and allies!

(September 4, 2009) This week in the news, Indian Country Today celebrated the war manufacturer Raytheon Missiles producing missile parts on the Navajo Nation's commercial farm.
Shortly before I was terminated in 2006, an ICT editor forbid me to expose the fact that Raytheon Missiles was operating on the same land where the Navajo Nation was growing corn and other crops for commercial sale at Navajo Agricultural Products Industry near Farmington, N.M.

It was during the same time that NAPI was negotiating a deal with Cuba for the sale of NAPI farm products to Cuba.I wanted to find out what toxins and byproducts might be produced by Raytheon Missiles there, which would endanger the health of people eating the crops, including corn, pinto beans and potatoes, which become commercial food products. I had been to NAPI before, while I was working for Navajo Times, during the 18 years that I lived on the Navajo Nation.

The Indian Country Today editor forbid me from even researching the matter. (Yes, he put it in writing.)

It comes as no surprise today that ICT is celebrating the missile maker being there on Navajoland.

One of ICT's primary advertisers on the ICT website, with a large ad revolving, has been the CIA Clandestine Services, recruiting for CIA spies, since the fall of 2008.
Advertisers always exert influence over newspapers. Further, the income from advertisers pays at least a portion of the salaries of the reporters and editors.

Native Americans activists, including Louise Benally, Navajo on Big Mountain resisting relocation, point out that the US colonizers indoctrinated Navajos to such an extent in boarding schools and public schools, that they are now manufacturing weapons which ultimately kill other Indigenous Peoples.

Navajo Agricultural Products Industry is located in the same area where Navajos who live on the land are fighting a third power plant, Desert Rock. It is power plant development driven by Navajo politicians.

It is the same area where the US government sent Navajos to their deaths with cancer and respiratory diseases from radiation exposure, during Cold War uranium mining.It is the same area where Utah Navajos with respiratory diseases have long fought the oil and gas wells around their homes.

It is the same area of the Navajo Place of Origin, Dinetah. Bahe Katenay, Navajo from Big Mountain, spoke out in defense of Dinetah, in northwest New Mexico. Katenay's comments came during the Bush energy exploitation of the land. Katenay opposed extensive oil and gas wells around Dinetah. Katenay was censored by Indian Country Today.

It is the same area where the land, water and air has been mined, desecrated and polluted by both the US government and Navajo politicians.
It is the Four Corners region.

The work done at NAPI is for weapons currently in use by U.S. and allied armed forces: the Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missile; Javelin Close Combat/Anti-armor Weapon System; Stinger; Phalanx Close-In Weapon System and Excalibur Precision Guided Extended Range Artillery Projectile, according to Raytheon.
