Nez Perce and supporters maintained a two and one-half hour rolling roadblock of the tarsands  megaload on Tuesday night and during the predawn of Wednesday, during the second night of human blockades at the Clearwater River in Idaho on sovereign Nez Perce Nation.

Blockaders said the Nez Perce Tribe maintained a 2.5 hour rolling roadblock, despite efforts of 40-50 police officers and the richest corporations in the world. 

About 100 Nez Perce slowed movement of the mega-monster to a crawl.

Brett Haverstick, who provided these photos, said, "The huge police presence last night, made up state, county and tribal officers, converge on 100-or so members of the Nez Perce Tribe---this was the beginning of the 2.5 rolling roadblock, in which men, women and children continue to proudly defend their rights, their culture, and their love of place."

On the second night of Nez Perce blocking the tarsands megaload, about 100 Nez Perce slowed the mega-monster to a crawl with a rolling human blockade.

Nez Perce Executive Council Arrested Blocking Tarsands Megaload

Nez Perce leaders were arrested blocking a tarsands megaload in the predawn hours of Tuesday morning. 

"We were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct," Brooklyn Baptiste told Censored News.

"Eight of the nine members were arrested," Baptiste said of the Nez Perce Executive Council.

"Most of us are out now," Baptiste said at 10 am.

Nez Perce gathered before midnight at the border of the sovereign Nez Perce Nation to block the megaload approaching on the highway. Singing the Flag Song, Nez Perce blocked the tarsands megaload before police and deputies removed blockaders and arrested Nez Perce leaders.

The massive shipment of oil refinery equipment continued its trek along scenic U.S. 12 early Tuesday.  The load departed the Port of Wilma, near Clarkston, Wash., shortly before 11 p.m. Monday, The Lewiston Tribune reported. The two-lane highway in Idaho passes through the Nez Perce reservation and a federally designated Wild and Scenic River corridor.

Idaho issued a permit last week allowing Omega Morgan to begin hauling two giant water purification units, measuring 225 feet long, 21 feet wide and weighing 644,000 pounds, across the state, into Montana and on to the oil sands project in Alberta, Canada.

Nez Perce Chairman Silas Whitman said Monday night that collaboration and diplomacy have failed and tribal members anticipated "intercepting the loads at the reservation line."

"We are tired of being pushed," Whitman said at a news conference at the Clearwater River Casino.

Ed Becenti, Dine', sent a message of support on Monday night:

"As a pure Dine' individual warrior, my ultimate support goes out to all the Nez Perce Warriors protesting the 'tarsands megaload' NOW. My so-called Navajo tribal government is an embarrassment to my traditional upbringing and beliefs. Being the largest land-based Native American Tribe in the U.S., Navajos should ultimately reserve the role as a blood-brother and almighty friend in times of defense of all Native American people in the U.S. and abroad!"

2:30 AM UPDATE: Twenty to thirty remaining, standing Nez Perce tribal members gathered around the tribal flag and sang, as about 20 combined state/county/tribal police confronted them. The majority of protest participants stood on the sidelines in support of this Nez Perce blockade. Traffic started piling up behind the convoy again, and police used their vehicles to push through the crowd that the megaload breached at 2:20 am. This blockade lasted longer than any other regional megaload obstruction since the first tar sands extraction modules rolled from Lewiston area ports on February 1, 2011. People are talking about further blockades on upcoming nights, perhaps in Kamiah

Dinsdagochtend, nog voor de zon opging werden Nez Perce leiders gearresteerd bij toen zij een teerzanden megalading blokkeerden.

Brooklyn Baptiste  van de Nez Perce executieve raad vertelde Censored News “Wij werden gearresteerd en aangeklaagd voor ordeverstoring. Acht van de negen leden hebben ze meegenomen, de meesten zijn buiten nu”

Nez Perce kwamen voor middernacht bijeen aan de grens van de soevereine Nez Perce Natie om de aankomende megalading op de snelweg te stoppen. Onder het gezang van de ‘Flag Song’ blokkeerden ze de teerzanden megalading alvorens de politie de demonstranten afvoerden en de Nez Perce leiders arresteerden.

De enorme vracht met olie raffinaderij apparatuur vervolgde zijn weg langs de pittoreske US 12. De vracht was , volgens The Lewiston Tribune kort voor 11uur vertrokken uit de Port of Wilma, nabij Clarkson,Washington.

De twee- banen snelweg in Idaho loopt door het Nez Perce reservaat en een door de federale overheid aangewezen 'Wild en pittoreske rivier corridor'.

Idaho heeft Omega Morgan verleden week de vergunning verleent om met twee reusachtige waterzuivering eenheden (68.58 meter lang, 6.50 meter wijd en 292 113.486 Kg.) doorheen de staat te trekken, door Montana naar naar het olie zanden project in Alberta, Canada.

Nez Perce voorzitter Silas Whitman zei maandag nacht dat samenwerking en diplomatie gefaald hebben en tribale leden anticipeerden om “ de lading te onderscheppen aan de reservaat grens”.

Ed Becenti, Dine’, stuurde maandag nacht een solidariteitsbericht:

“ Als een zuivere Dine’ krijger gaat mijn ultieme steun naar al de Nez Perce krijgers die demonstreren tegen de teerzanden megalading. Mijn zogenaamde Navajo tribale overheid brengt schande aan mijn traditionele opvoeding en geloof. Zijnde de grootste Native Amerikaanse stam in de US, zouden de Navajo’s zich de rol als bloedbroeder en machtige vriend van alle Native Americans in en buiten de US  moeten voorbehouden in tijden van nood!”

2.30 u. update:

Twintig tot dertig overblijvende Nez Perce tribale leden verzamelden zich rond de tribale vlag en zongen hun lied toen zij geconfronteerd werden met de samenwerkende staats/county/ tribale politie.

De meerderheid van de demonstranten stonden aan de zijlijn in solidariteit met de Nez Perce blokkade.

Het verkeer begon zich op te hopen achter het konvooi en de politie gebruikte hun wagens om een weg te banen voor de megalading.

Deze blokkade duurde langer dat eender welke megalading obstructie sinds de eerste teerzanden extractie modules uit Lewiston havens rolden op 11 Februari 2011.

De mensen spreken over verdere blokkades tijdens opeenvolgende nachten, misschien in Kamiah.

At midnight, the tarsands megaload was about an hour away from the Nez Perce border. About 150 people are gathered to block the megaload.

AP: LEWISTON, Idaho -- The company hired to move two large water purification units through Idaho and Montana en route to an oil sands project in Canada has announced plans to begin moving its first load on Monday night. The Idaho Transportation Department on Friday issued a permit for Omega Morgan to begin moving the 225-foot-long loads from the Port of Wilma near Clarkston, Wash., and along scenic U.S. Highway 12 in north central Idaho. The Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee passed a resolution Sunday opposing the shipments and urging the Forest Service to block them.
