Joye Braun: NO! to fat takers, halts megaload to oilfields

EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. -- A Cheyenne River Lakota woman turned a megaload around today, saying "No!" to fat takers and megaloads" headed to the oil fields, adding that "you have to be the change you want."
Joye Braun told Censored News, "There were two trucks that came through yesterday, but no one stopped them. I just saw pictures. So when I heard about this one this morning I wasn't going to let it through.
"Husband came back from the store early this morning and said there is a megaload staged at Ampride Cenex here in town (Eagle Butte, SD). I grabbed slippers, coat and out the door we ran. 
"You see I believe you have to be the change you want and the day before I just got done talking about being more direct in our actions. 
"My husband took the pics, but we belong to United Urban Warrior Society Eagle Butte Chapter and you can bet we are not going to let these megaloads cross our land and will do whatever we can whenever we can. 
"The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has about 6 tribal council resolutions against these megaloads and oil company fat takers. More than just about any other tribe, yet we have to be willing to put our words into actions.
"The driver did turn back the way he came and he did talk to his dispatcher to find him a different route NOT on our tribal land, because we have laws against megaloads."
"Just for the record, we asked the truck driver if his load was considered a megaload, asked to see his trip itinerary, destination of load, and if it was for the oil fields. The truck driver said yes it was a megaload, and yes it was for the oil fields.
"My husband and I have been pushed off the road by these big rigs on my reservation before."

Hundreds of Tribal representatives join huge rally to oppose fracking

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Hundreds of members of California Indian Nations and Tribes from throughout the country gathered with a crowd of over 4000 people at the State Capitol in Sacramento on March 15 to send a clear message to Governor Brown: ban fracking, an environmentally destructive oil extraction practice that pollutes groundwater, rivers and the oceans.

The large Tribal contingent included members of the Miwok, Maidu, Winnemem Wintu, Yurok, Karuk, Hoopa Valley, Ohlone, Pit River, Cahto, Round Valley, Pomo, Tule River and Chumash Nations and other Tribes from throughout the state, as well as members of the Dakota, Lakota Sioux, indigenous communities, native organizations and activists in the Idle No More Movement and Klamath Justice Coalitions. Many Tribal representatives emphasized the direct connection between fracking and the Shasta Dam raise and the Governor’s peripheral tunnels plan, which will provide water for fracking.
“We should call the Governor ‘Westlands' Brown,” quipped Chook Chook Hillman, a member of the Karuk Tribe and the Klamath Justice Coalition that has organized many direct action protests to remove the Klamath dams, halt the violation of tribal gathering rights under the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) Initiative to create so-called “marine protected areas,” and to stop the Westlands Water District legal attempt to raid Trinity River water.

'Independent investigator' of Tex Hall is actually oil and gas lobbyist

The firm Dentons that the Three Affiliated Tribes hired to do an "independent investigation" of Chairman Tex Hall and the alleged oilfield corruption is actually a lobbyist for the Bakken oil and gas industry. The push for the probe comes as a murder investigation continues into one of Hall's business partners in the oil and gas industry. A second partner is missing.

Chairman Hall created his own business, Maheshu, to profit from the oil and gas industry on tribal land.

Another person, former North Dakota Attorney General Nicholas Spaeth -- who was in North Dakota working on oil and gas issues -- was found dead Sunday.

Meanwhile, investigators are probing the murder of a business associate of Tex Hall in Washington state, Douglas Carlile, 63, of Spokane, and the disappearance of another business associate in North Dakota, KC Clark. At the same time, investigators say an informant said Hall was also targeted for murder.

Investigators are probing a string of businesses that Tex Hall and business associate James Henrikson, now in police custody, were involved with in the oil and gas industry on land of the Three Affiliated Tribes, also known as Fort Berthold.

A resolution states that Hall allegedly profited from a tribal payment for more than $588,000 for road watering work to one of the companies, Blackstone Oil Field Services.

Meanwhile, Chairman Hall created his own personal company, Maheshu Energy, to financially benefit from the oil and gas industry on tribal land. While tribal members struggled to protect the environment, Hall pushed for oil and gas leasing on tribal land and argued before a Congressional committee in favor of fracking.

Besides widespread devastation to the land, air and water, the Three Affiliated Tribes became infested with crime as a result of the ‘man camps’ of oil and gas workers.

Welcome Back the Wakiya Oyate (Thunders) Ceremony Honoring the Sunka Wakan Oyate (Horse) Nation

In the past the Welcome Back the Wakiya Oyate - Thunder Ceremony has always been done on March 21st, but because there is an International effort to respect the Mini wic’oni – the Water of Life – it was decided to unite our prayers and our energy, and to hold the event on March 22nd, on United Nations World Water Day.

In the history of our People, this is the time to do our ceremony to Welcome Back the Thunders. This ceremony for our Nation – The Buffalo Oyate (Lakota, Dakota, Nakota), has always taken place in the Heart Of Mother Earth – The Sacred Black Hills at Harney Peak, South Dakota. Russell Eagle Bear and Ben Rodd have been in the forefront for organizing this important ceremony for a long time. Each year many school bus loads of children, along with Elders and the People make this pilgrimage to offer prayers on top of Harney Peak.

As the Keeper of the Sacred Bundle, I would also like to acknowledge the importance of the Sunka Wakan Oyate – the Horse Nation. When I was taught the teachings and history of the Bundle, the Elders told me that the Horse Ceremony came along with the original teachings - 19 generations ago. We pray to the West, the Horse Nation, who attends to this direction in order to bring rain. The main medicine of the rain brings life, health and well being, this is why water is called Mini wic’oni – Water of Life.

Today the Horse Nation is being dismissed as having no worth any longer in this Society. There is no-where for them roam free and in places were they feel they have worth along with humans, they are being dismissed and replaced. Along with the Buffalo, they have been massacred, with no respect for their spiritual energy they give to this turtle island. If the assault of the Horse Nation is allowed to continue: this disrespect can affect the blessings from the Wakiya Oyate.

Today we are faced with many global challenges that affect the Mini Wic’oni in order for its medicine to be pure. We are at the time where these challenges can affect the survival of the generations to come; we need to pay attention.

I humbly ask People of All Nations to open your hearts and minds to this important information of how all things are connected. The future generations and all life upon Mother Earth depend on you to offer your thoughts and prayers on this day with us. I will be in Grandmother Country (Canada) spreading this important information and joining all who hold these issues sacred.
