Compañera and sister:
We greet you in the name of all of the Zapatista indigenous women of all ages, from the youngest to the wisest—the oldest, that is. We hope you are well and are struggling along with your families, sisters, and compañeras.
Here we are having a lot of problems with the paramilitary forces who now come out of the MORENA party, just like before they came from the PRI, PAN, PRD, and Verde Ecologista parties.
But that’s not what we wanted to talk to you about. We wanted to talk to you about something more urgent and more important: the incredible violence waged against women, which has not only not ceased but actually increased in quantity and in cruelty. The murders and disappearances of women have reached a level that we could not have imagined before, and no woman of any age, class, political affiliation, color, race, or religion is safe. We might think that rich women, women politicians or famous women are safe because they have their security guards and police to protect them, but no, not even they are safe, because the violence that kidnaps, disappears, or kills us often comes from family members, friends, and acquaintances.

Indigenous Youths Arrested in Victoria in Solidarity with Wet'suwet'en -- March 4, 2020 Videos

In support of Wet'suwet'en who are battling to defend their homeland from Coastal GasLink pipeline, five youths were arrested at the B.C. Legislature on March 4, 2020. The following videos Indigenous youths making their stand and reveal a police officer running into one of the youths.
“Our lives are more valuable than an economic bottom line which is why we are occupying this office currently,” said Indigenous youth leader Ta’kaiya Blaney on a live stream she posted to social media Wednesday night.
“We had a good conversation, but we know these meetings cannot set the tone for a history, and ongoing history, of colonization in this country," she said after youths met with Indigenous Relations Minister Scott Fraser.
First Video ~1~ of Wetsuweten Youths Land Defending in the Legislator AFTER a meeting with B.C, Indigenous Relations Minister Scott Fraser who told the Indigenous Youths that he didn't Respect First Nations rights, laws and wouldn't stand with them. Simply Fraser who once worked on the Alberta Oil Rigs, was indifferent to the Native plight. Fraser could care less then said he felt betrayed. Imagine a Member of Legislative Assembly that is suppose to be responsible whining.
The Victoria Police also had confiscated the youths' phones, cameras and shut the curtains to shut out the outside while they arrested the youths according to legal observers.
Indigenous Youth that were arrested are:
Saul Brown, Ace Harry, Shay Lynn Sampson, Navidu Willie, Kolin Sutherland Wilson.
Their rights were not read to them and the Victoria Police kept legal observers from assisting the youths according to eye witnesses.

Leona Morgan, a Diné [Navajo] antinuclear activist, was invited by the CSIA-Nitassinan on February 16th, 2020. She talked about her work, nuclear colonialism, historical and present impacts of uranium on the people of her community, actions that have been undertaken and actions to be undertaken in order to resist.

You can find on this site more information on Leona’s work and on her visit in 2019 to Bure, France, where a waste burial site is being dug. (A waste burial site is also planned in New Mexico, where she lives). The Navajo Nation [“reservation”] and the surroundings have been particularly impacted by uranium mines and other nuclear industries.
Leona started her presentation by showing a picture of Monument Valley, a world-famous image, as many movies, especially ‘Western’ movies, were made there. This is also where uranium was first mined in the Navajo Nation, in the 1940s. Mining developed continuously during the Cold Wartime.
