MNN. August 4th, 2023. Major developments on search for unmarked graves at Royal Victoria Hospital RVH.

 The Kahnistensera (Mohawk Mothers) are deeply concerned about the recent actions of McGill University and the Société Québécoise des Infrastructures’ (SQI) in the archaeological search for unmarked burials at the New Vic site. Despite publicly stating their support for the court-ordered process and commitment to reconciliation, McGill and SQI have unilaterally terminated the panel’s Que. ordered mandate. They also did not follow through on several recommendations in the Settlement Agreement signed in April 2023 and homologated in the Quebec Superior Court.

[Mashteuiatsh, July 31, 2023] The Mashk Assi Collective, whose mission is to protect Nitassinan, sent a settlement to the company Resolu on July 31, 2023 to remind the opposition of the guardian families of the territory of the Innu Territory to any forest cutting on their territory (see attached). The company was advised by recommended mail that guards of the territory will be patrolling the area of km 40 north of Dolbeau-Mistassini to apply the self-determination of their ancestral sovereignty and to ensure that no unburnt trees are cut down for profit. A blockade was put in place in the sector on the morning of July 31, 2023 to monitor the enforcement of the Innue Law and compliance with the settlement.

Elkins was greeting one of the many canoes that approached Alki Beach on Sunday, the celebratory landing day of the Muckleshoot Canoe Journey. Under sunny skies, tribes from the Pacific Northwest and beyond celebrated participating in the culturally important journey once again after several years off because of COVID.

Prior to arriving at Alki, the canoes had departed from Suquamish that morning, where they had a day of rest before the final push.
