Journalism Takes a Hit, While a New Brand of Carpetbaggers Emerge

Journalism took a hit this week.

Alleen Brown, who did the extremely difficult and precise work of exposing TigerSwan and more at Standing Rock, was laid off by The Intercept this week.

It takes a great deal of courage, perseverance, and knowledge to do this type of reporting.

Equally troubling is the fact that Energy Transfer, owner of the Dakota Access Pipeline, is fighting The Intercept in court to halt the release of 16,000 TigerSwan documents that North Dakota already has.

When Palestinians joined the support of water protectors at Standing Rock in 2016, TigerSwan mercenaries targeted them, according to files leaked to The Intercept.

Now, in North Dakota, TigerSwan's documents include Palestinians, who were racially profiled by TigerSwan, and others targeted and stalked by the pipeline's mercenaries.

Today, there are 16,000 pages of TigerSwan's spy files from Standing Rock in a court battle before the North Dakota Supreme Court. A district court ruled these are public documents and ordered the release. The pipeline rushed to the higher court to keep these documents secret.

Elbit Systems built the spy towers on the Tohono O'odham Nation. Traditional O'odham opposed this, but the U.S. government and the Tohono O'odham Legislature approved the spy towers.

The US Border Patrol agents now use the live images from the spy towers to track and stalk O'odham on their homeland. The tower data is transmitted to the agents' laptops. The most vulnerable are isolated O'odham women, children and elderly, on the O'odham homeland on both sides of the border.

At the same time, three U.S. Border Patrol agents in this area -- the Tucson, Arizona,  sector of the U.S. Border Patrol -- have been charged as serial rapists.
