Tucson jury refuses to criminalize humanitarian aid

TUCSON -- Dr. Scott Warren thanked his family, supporters and attorneys after the judge announced a hung jury in his case on Tuesday. Warren urged support for migrants and refugees, as communities continue to face militarization in border communities.
"I love you all," Warren said, after the jury did not convict him.

TUCSON — The jury in the felony trial against Scott Warren, a humanitarian-aid volunteer charged with harboring two undocumented immigrants in southwestern Arizona, was unable to reach a verdict in the high-profile case.  After bringing the 12-person jury into the Tucson courtroom, U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins declared a hung jury. He dismissed the jury after each member told him that additional time would not result in a verdict. Read more:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agents Used Racial Slurs in Messages with U.S. Border Patrol Agents

TUCSON -- The racial slurs of federal agents on the US Mexico border are exposed in court documents in the court case against Dr. Scott Warren, and even go so far as to the provide the location of one humanitarian aid worker's home, Unicorn Riot exposed today.

In this set of documents, the targeting of humanitarian workers began in 2017.

"Court documents expose text messages between multiple federal officers using racist slurs when referring to migrants and at one point even going as far as to share the location of a humanitarian aid workers’ home," Unicorn Riot reports.

" 80-pages of court documents highlight a conversation between Border Patrol and Fish and  Wildlife Officers which reveals the racist nature of federal officers involved in tracking the human rights volunteers. In one text message, Officer Marquez asks Officer Bissel to let them know if “anymore bean droppers come around.” In another text, Officer Burns tells two other federal agents that he sees “2 toncs at the house”, referring to individuals he assumes have entered the country illegally."

"The documents detail text messages between multiple federal agents about a report on the local nightly news exposing Border Patrol 'vandalism to their water drop sites.' In recent years, federal agents have been exposed sabotaging water drops multiple times by cameras hidden by humanitarian group, No More Deaths."

SUNLAND PARK, NM - Today, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico called on the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) to block We Build the Wall, a crowdfunded organization led by anti-immigrant extremists Steve Bannon and Kris Kobach, from constructing a private border barrier across public property administered by IBWC. We Build the Wall recently announced that it had constructed a steel gate across a federally owned road adjacent to the private parcel of land where they have constructed a half-mile section of steel border fence. The gate, which was installed prior to receiving proper permits from IBWC, blocks access to public land containing Monument One, a monument listed on the National Register of Historic Places which has marked the international boundary between New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico since 1855.
