The Oglala Lakota Nation said masks are now required due to the rapid increase in cases of COVID-19.

"As of today, August 11, 2022, Oglala Lakota County has gone into the High COVID-19 Community Level. Per Oglala Sioux Tribe Ordinance 22-53, Masks are now Mandatory in Oglala Lakota County," the Oglala Lakota Nation said.

On the Navajo Nation, there were 226 new cases, and four deaths, reported on Wednesday. Today, there were 127 new cases of COVID. Now, 1,871 Dineh have died from the virus. Currently, 69 Navajo communities have an uncontrolled spread of the virus, the Navajo Nation said.

OROVADA, Nevada (August 9, 2022) — For over a year, Nevada and Oregon Indian tribes have been accusing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) of rushing tribal consultation for Lithium Nevada Corp.’s planned Thacker Pass lithium mine and of failing to account for Native American sacred sites and the site of an 1865 massacre.

These allegations appear to be true as BLM has now informed area tribes that they have “discovered” five “new” historic sites in Thacker Pass, including the massacre site. BLM is now legally required to reopen tribal consultation about the new sites, which could suspend construction activities for months.

DELANO, Calif.—With the fight to preserve voting rights against voter suppression underway nationwide, California farm workers are staging a sacrificial 24-day, 335-mile peregrinacion (pilgrimage or march) from Delano to Sacramento during the heat of summer to convince Governor Gavin Newsom to sign their bill giving farm workers protection from intimidation in elections to choose a union. Today, they must nearly always vote on grower property, amidst cynical voter suppression through abuse and intimidation by foremen, supervisors, and labor contractors.
