Long Walk 4 in St Louis/Photo by April Rhodes |
I heard the Longest Walk 4 is in St. Louis today. It brought back some memories! The Longest Walk camped right there by the arch back in 1978. I remember laying there in the grass under the arch and looking up at it. Didn't think I would remember that but what else do 10-year-olds remember! This reminds to tell everyone to not let the chance to walk with the walkers pass you by -- there is so much knowledge that can be learned. No amount of money can buy that. Things are going to change drastically and get very hard for all people these next 40 years. All the knowledge and wisdom that came from the walk in 1978 has carried us these past 35 years , we need to continue that for whats coming next.

I watched the video of the 1978 walk and then saw the new walkers in St. Louis. It is such a small group and I was surprised to see young ones. How courageous they all are. I’m sure they are learning of previous journeys across our now occupied land. The rulers of our homeland assert we no longer are free people with sovereignty and self-determination. Because of colonialism indigenous people are still marching for their freedom to be peoples. As the Long Walk people did in 1978 another long walk occurred into the halls of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, took place in 1977. This entrance into the United Nations is being commemorated in Geneva during the week of September 16-20, 2013. I pray these simultaneous events educate all of us of our triumphs and actions we’ve taken to resist our colonization and inspire all of us to keep on that long, hard journey to regain our inherent sovereignty in the spirit of true self-determination.

Did anyone record "Walk on Long Walkers" song by Benny Ventana he performed along the way during the 1978 Walk?
