RAPID CITY, South Dakota – On Saturday, July 20th, we traveled to Mni Luzahan to support the International Indigenous Youth Council for a peaceful rally for Palestine. The rally was co-sponsored by ally group SD4Pal. Within 5 minutes of our arrival, this worker began heckling us from the lawn of City Hall, where she was working.

RAPID CITY, South Dakota -- On July 20th, a Saturday afternoon, dozens peacefully gathered around the City Hall to call for a ceasefire for Palestine. We were assaulted with spray paint and threatened with a firearm. These violent acts prove exactly what Palestinians have to experience from day to day.

PINE RIDGE, Oglala Sioux Nation -- Oglala Sioux President Julian Bear Runner said if the man camps and oil pipelines come here and encroach on Oglala land, they will have to run over him because he is willing to die as his ancestors did.

President Bear Runner's words were the battle cry, the call to action, before Tokatawin Iron Eyes, Lakota, and Greta Thunberg spoke out for Mother Earth on Pine Ridge, in the heart of Native resistance.

Then, these two 16-year-olds woke up the world.

TURTLE ISLAND, CNW/ - A large delegation of Chiefs of First Nations from across Canada that are among the over 120 First Nations and Tribes who have signed the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion will be travelling to the sacred Black Hills of the Great Sioux Nation in South Dakota at the invitation of US Tribal leaders for a historic ceremony on July 4th in opposition to TransCanada's Keystone XL pipeline and the other three planned oil sands expansion pipelines (Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain Expansion, Enbridge's Line 3 and TransCanada's Energy East).

RAPID CITY, South Dakota -- Today in Rapid City, Trace O'Connell did not appear in court, but his lawyer entered a plea of not guilty. O'Connell was charged only with disorderly conduct after throwing beer on Lakota students, and verbally abusing them with racial slurs, at a hockey game. Today's protesters said O'Connell should be charged with a hate crime. The charge of disorderly conduct reflects the good old boy system of justice in Rapid City, a bordertown where racial violence has long been fueled and protected by the media, police and judges.

Trace O’Connell of Phillip, South Dakota was charged with disorderly conduct. "Mr. O’Connell is the fine gentleman who, while drunk, taunted and racially assaulted several Native American children at a Pro-Hockey Game at the Rapid City Civic Center by spraying beer on them and shouting 'Go Back to the Rez' and possibly other racially motivated attacks against any number of the reported 57 American Horse students who were there as a reward for good behavior and academic achievement."

The Justice for Vern March will proceed southbound on 5th Street until finally reaching the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is Supporting VERN TRAVERSIE and will be providing Transportation (EB to RC) to the Rally and March.

Blind, 68-year-old Lakota elder Vern Traversie has KKK carved into his torso while recovering from open heart surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital on a referral from the Indian Health Service.

After 7 months of waiting for justice, Cheyenne River Sioux Nation tribal member Vern Traversie went public with an appeal for justice.
