Zapatistas Solidarity with Wixárika -- Land Defenders Assassinated

.

Solidarity and support for our brothers and sisters of the Wixárika people

By National Indigenous Congress
Zapatista National Liberation Army

To the Wixárika People

To the Peoples of the World

Gathered together in the Constitutive Assembly of the Indigenous Council for Mexico at CIDECI–UNITIERRA, Chiapas, the indigenous peoples, nations, and tribes who make up the National Indigenous Congress and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation say to the Wixárika people that we stand together, that your pain and rage are also ours, and that the path of your historic struggle is part of the hope we have as a country and as a world.

We repudiate and condemn the cowardly murder of the compañeros Miguel Vázquez Torres and Agustín Vázquez Torres of the Wixárika community of Waut+a- Saint Sebastian Teponahuaxtlán in the state of Jalisco on May 20 of the present year at the hands of the mercenaries of organized crime. This crime could not have happened without the absolute complicity of the bad governments on all levels, given that the riches of the Wixárika lands are coveted by the powers of capital which know no limits and which use their narco-paramilitary groups to try to dismantle an organization as exemplary as that of the Wixaritari.

OWE AKU NEEDS YOUR HELP
UNITE TO FIGHT
The Unite to Fight Training Program of Owe Aku is designed to provide learning experiences for community activists, leaders and grass roots people in order to share the teachings of folks who have done community outreach and social change work for years, some for decades, in both rural and urban settings with people of all walks of life, on a myriad of issues.
We are now a short time away from hosting such a gathering!  Once again, we will pull together volunteer presenters/instructors to lead the training for community folks aged 18 through 45 who will camp together for several days on the beautiful Pine Ridge (SD) Homelands.  Topics for this training camp include media training for the written word, social media, short film, graphics, and banner making for messaging; critical thinking skills, development and practice; consensus/decision making skills; creating your own narrative and community and/or cultural activities to share the narrative; research and design and implementation of community awareness, education, and action campaigns.  Participants will take this training home and not only implement its tenets, but also share it with their communities, neighborhoods, affinity groups, towns, cities and tribes.  ITS REACH IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ESTIMATE.
We are expecting 40 to 50 participants who will work together for several days to develop and hone such skills.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Lakota Media Project of Owe Aku is hosting a training for actively involved young media makers from across Indian Country, and broader America to gather and learn together and produce some media!  With the popularity of social media among young people, we feel it is important to include such training, print media, radio media, and graphic arts will also be covered in this upcoming training.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!
"The Unite to Fight training is a School of Liberation in that it frees you from and replaces past notions of how Indigenous and other communities of people can create and implement the kind of peaceful and effective social change necessary for their particular and respective communities, within the construct of their ancient and traditional life ways," says Debra White Plume of Owe Aku.

Water Protector from Standing Rock camp Rafael Gonzalez, Tufawon, Dakota from Minneapolis, shared the message and struggle of Water of Life, with Basque in Spain as the 11 Country Tour of Europe concludes. Gonzalez, hip hop artist, performed throughout Europe. Gonzalez was joined by Nataanii Means, Dine' Lakota; Waste Win Young, Dakota Lakota from Standing Rock; and Rachel Heaton, Muckleshoot, on the Tour.
Spain and Italy were the last stops on the 11 Country Tour.
Rafael said, "Days ago, I was in Bologna, Italy with a group of activists from Làbas a political collective currently occupying the former Caserma Masini building/space. We did a critical mass bank action targeting Intensa San Paolo, one of several European banks funding the Dakota Access Pipeline. They are invested €349 million. We wrote a letter to the Carlo Messina and biked there to deliver it. Police in riot gear were waiting as they protected corporate interests. Although the bank did not send a representative to accept our letter, we made our message clear and I'm confident they hear our voices. We will not be silenced, and we will continue to put pressure on these banks that support the genocide, environmental genocide, environmental racism, and the desecration of our sacred land. Please join our struggle as we continue to fight the same colonial oppression we've faced for 500 years."

"We are here to stop exploitation of Mother Earth. We are no longer going to sit in silence as Indigenous People. We are here to reclaim the land."

Trump ropes Mexico into Human Rights Disaster Conference on Migration of Central Americans

On Thursday, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will bring the governments of El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico together in Miami for the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America.

The Trump Administration has roped Mexico into co-hosting this discussion on how to address the root causes of Central American migration. However, their “solutions” look like more of the same policies that created these problems in the first place; they plan to lower regulations to attract predatory transnational corporations under the “free trade” framework and further militarize the region to fight the failed War on Drugs and crack down on migrants and refugees.

Trump's 'America First' Puts Native America Last by Lisa Deville

Trump and White House Budget Cuts

The end of May, 2017 Trump and the White House Released its Budget Proposal jeopardizing the future of Native American people and the and tribes.  The Federal Government has failed to hold up the trust responsibility and treaty obligation to protect Native people.  Our ancestors were forced into treaties as a last resort when our homelands were forcefully taken from us rather than suffer the consequence of genocide.  History of genocide and assimilation of the indigenous people is hidden as much as of how we were forced to believe the white mans' way is the only way.

When President Trump's budget was announced two weeks ago, I was appalled. His so-called "America First" budget clearly puts America last, gutting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of the Interior (DOI) in favor of corporate special interests and CEOs. The administration has proposed cutting the EPA's budget by $2.5 billion and DOI's budget by $1.6 billion, which would eviscerate key programs that North Dakotans need to ensure that we leave a strong and healthy legacy for our children. We will not be able to safeguard our public lands and our families' drinking water if leaders in Washington continue to allow special interests to take priority over the needs of average Americans.

Water Protectors from Standing Rock ended their triumphant tour of Europe, with appearances in Spain and Italy, urging divestment in fossil fuels, investing in clean energy, and rallying for people to take control of the resources and protect Mother Earth.
Rachel Heaton, Muckleshoot, said, "Tonight I spoke on a panel with some amazing folks at the University of Barcelona. This was my last event, as I'll be heading home tomorrow. I'm glad it ended in such a good way. I have to admit, it was kinda weird to be sitting in a room surrounded by paintings of conquistadors."
Hip Hop Artist Nataanii Means, Dine' and Lakota, performed in Madrid, Spain, and Rafael Gonzalez, Dakota, led a rally in Bologna, Italy.
We will not be silenced, and we will continue to put pressure on these banks that support the genocide, environmental genocide, environmental racism, and the desecration of our sacred land. Please join our struggle as we continue to fight the same colonial oppression we've faced for 500 years."
Mazaska Talks said, "As the month-long European tour concludes, our Water Protectors split ways. Here's a march Rafael Gonzalez attended in Bologna, Italy against G7 environment ministers' meeting." (Watch RT video below.)
During the 11 Country Tour, Water Protectors from Standing Rock camps addressed the United Nations in Geneva, and met with banking officials urging divestment in Energy Transfer Partners, owners of Dakota Access Pipeline in Paris and Switzerland. They stood in solidarity with those resisting polluters in the Netherlands, supported coal mine resistance in Germany, and led the 'Trump is Not Welcome Here' march at NATO in Brussels, Belgium.
While being met with warm welcomes by those defending the Earth in Europe, by contrast, bank officials insulted and booed the Water Protectors in Paris and Switzerland.
As Waste Win Young, Dakota Lakota from Standing Rock, was addressing Credit Suisse in Switzerland, bank officials insulted Water Protectors and denied the historical existence of American Indian genocide.
In Paris, Nataanii Means, Dineh/Lakota, and Rachel Heaton, Muckleshoot, spoke to the shareholders of Société General, BNP, and Nataxis banks.
Nataanii Means said, “Rachel and I were the only ones allowed in with our translators. We were met with derogatory yelling, boo's, and confrontation. When we stated that these banks and their investments into overseas pipelines directly affect my people and community, people began to make so much noise meant to muffle our voices while we were speaking. We were treated with unbelievable disrespect.”
The Tour was triumphant as he welded together the solidarity and resistance from the European continent with those who rushed bravely to resist Dakota Access Pipeline from the camps at Standing Rock.
Since last spring, thousands of Native Americans and supporters camped at Standing Rock to resist Dakota Access Pipeline, and the threat to their drinking water in the Missouri River, rushing in to police brutality, tear gas and water cannons in freezing temperatures.
Those who stood, and resisted at Standing Rock, were beaten by police and injured, they were locked up in dog kennels by Morton County in North Dakota, with numbers written on their arms as was done by the Nazis, and they camped in subzero temperatures under the constant threat of eviction, with drones overhead, snipers on the hilltops, and militarized police surrounding them with loaded shotguns, high powered rifles, and positioned in armored tanks with sound cannons.
The Water Protectors resistance began as a grassroots movement, and it continues as a movement of the people.
