AI, Artificial Intelligence, isn't intelligence at all -- it's stealing

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X have taken all public posts, photos and comments and put it in their AI machines to be mixed and thrown back up in any way they choose. Most users were unaware of this. It is a violation of the public trust.

It's called "data scraping" and the new AI search chats have scraped all your public posts, comments and photos on social media, and dumped them in their money-making machines. Twitter/X's Grok, an AI search, confirms that it is using copy-righted news articles. Meanwhile, authors are in court, suing over the theft of their online books. There are hundreds of major lawsuits. And the AI, artificial intelligence, data centers are guzzling water and electricity, even in desert regions, and making the water in rivers too hot for the salmon. AI is not intelligence it is theft.

For the billionaires, and the plagiarizers, stealing seems the easiest way to go.

Whether its lithium you're after for your sinking electric car business, or you're a stay-at-home 'reporter' stealing other peoples hard work, or engulfed in the hype of the new AI search engines, stealing seems to be the easy way.

"Everyone is doing it," says one editor, as he grabs others hard work to rewrite it.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- The Bioneers Conference celebrated 30 years today, with speakers sharing powerful talks on healing, democracy and the state of the news, with a large group of Indigenous presenters and youths present.

Cara Romero, Chemehuevi, said there are 51 Indigenous presenters here, and 250 Natives attending from 99 different Nations at Bioneers.  Romero is the program director of the Bioneers Indigeneity program.
Julian Noisecat, Indigenous Resistance youth presenter, described the Canoe Journey to Alcatraz. and how Alcatraz has been a vision of resistance.

Facebook, Google and the News

The inspiring speakers include Monika Bauerlein, CEO of Mother Jones speaking on the oppression of journalists, especially in Turkey. She described how Facebook makes money "by catering to anger and fear."

In 2017, Facebook began decreasing news appearing in feeds.
"Journalists are losing their jobs faster than coal miners," she told the crowd. At the same time, propaganda and disinformation are on the rise. This is not a coincidence.
Bauerlein said there is hope. There are now 2,000 people working in non-profit newsrooms. She points out that non-profits like Mother Jones have the freedom to write what others, like the New York Times, do not have the freedom to write or publish.

Earlier, Eve Ensler, author of Vagina Monologues, spoke on the sincere apologies necessary from those carrying out sexual and physical violence to their victims.
Other powerful speakers described healing, democracy and regeneration.
Cara thanked San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for sponsoring Native youths.

Sacred Rage and Love
During the afternoon session, Eve Ensler, author of Vagina Monologues, said, everyone needs a crew, a posse, someone who has your back.

"Who do you have in your corner, who do you have that has your back?" She said each person needs people who celebrate them and make them feel safe. Ensler is speaking the panel presentation, "Grief, Sacred Rage, Reckoning and Revolutionary Love."
Bioneers says: "These are the most extraordinary writers, activists and thought leaders of our era: Terry Tempest Williams, Eve Ensler, and Valarie Kaur." 
Bioneers writes, "For too long women in general and women of color even more pointedly have been told to suppress their grief and rage 
in the name of love and forgiveness. No more. How do we reclaim our emotions in the labor of loving others? What might authentic reckoning, apology, and transformation look like, personally and politically, and where would they ultimately lead us?"

Williams is an award-winning nature author from Utah, who has been arrested for civil disobedience. She spoke earlier on protecting Bears Ears, and the destruction of the oil and gas industry in the Aneth oilfields and elsewhere.

Ensler is the author of Vagina Monologues. She was sexually abused by her father from the age of five to the time she was ten years old. She described the process of healing and how there is a need for a sincere apology from those carrying out sexual and domestic violence. She described her journey to forgive her father.
During the afternoon session, Ensler said, "The most dangerous thing we can do is to be truly loving."
Ensler said, that she once had a pattern of giving all her friends a gift if she felt jealous of them and their success. She said there were lots of people getting gifts that year.

Valarie Kaur is speaking now on love and sacred rage. Kaur is an American civil rights activist, documentary filmmaker, lawyer, educator and faith leader. She was born and raised in Clovis, California, where her family settled as Sikh farmers in 1913.
"You are enough!" Kaur said, at the conclusion of the session attended by hundreds.

Grandmother's Blessings
An incredible keynote speaker today at the Bioneers Conference is Jerry Tello. Tello spoke of his grandmother and her blessings and how she woke at 4 a.m. to talk with the plants. Of course, as a child, he thought she was crazy. But later as a teen, with Fs in high school history and algebra, he considered taking his own life. But then, there on the streets of Compton, he smelled the scent of his grandmother, he felt her presence, and once again she brought him the blessing.

With great humor, Tello shared his life stories today, and added after this blessing as a teen, that he walked around the tree and found a 20 dollar bill. He encouraged everyone to bless everyone you meet.
Tello also remembered his mother and the life lessons she shared. He grew up with no thought of being poor, but then there were always the beans every day at meals. Now, he realized those beans, picking out the rocks from the dry beans with his mother, was a life lesson, about taking out what is not good for you in life. And yes, he would love to taste again his mother's beans.

Jerry Tello of Mexican, Texan and Coahuiltecan ancestry, raised in South Central Los Angeles, has worked for 40+ years as a leading expert in transformational healing for men and boys of color; racial justice; peaceful community mobilization; and providing domestic violence awareness, healing and support services to war veterans and their spouses. He currently works with the Sacred Circles Center in Whittier, California and is a member of its performance group.

Artists respond at the edges of birth and death

Facebook Caught in Spy-for-Dollars Scheme

Some would call it karma. We were writing about how Facebook had provided a platform for the theft of the content and revenues of honest people, tee-shirt designers, hard working news reporters, and many others.
Then, at the same time, bam, Facebook gets caught with far more than screwing over the little people. It got caught with its major spy-for-dollars-of-your-data, with a crash costing it $50 billion in its market value since last week, and a call to testify before Congress about Cambridge Analytica.
Of course Facebook is still collecting your data, and not just for advertising purposes to sell you something.
The data is given to the military, law enforcement, political campaigns and global intelligence officers. No surprise here, but at least it gives us the names.
And, of course, Cambridge was just linked to the Blackwater founder. Again, no surprise here.

How trolls take over the conversation
The news reports have explained how trolls create trends on Facebook. First, they create arguments and drama, which heats up the clicks and sharing. This is another good reason to use "delete" and "block" so trolls don't take over the conversation.

Google and Facebook reap news revenues while real reporters struggle to survive

The Wall Street Journal is hardly the voice of the people, but it makes an important point here -- Google and Facebook are receiving most of the revenues from news these days, and reporters are receiving almost nothing.
The article does not mention the fact that reporters in Indian country are usually paying out of their own pockets to go out on news stories, and the thieves on Facebook and websites shared by Google, are making about three-fourths of the money.
Most of the news websites on Facebook are not alternative news sites at all, they are stolen news. These are operated by plagiarizers who copy and paste, or rewrite, the hard work of the real reporters struggling to survive.
For real reporters, there is the cost of travel -- cars and lodging -- along with computer, photography, cell and video equipment. All this makes it nearly impossible for most freelancers to keep going.
And in Indian country, the few remaining reporters who are present are usually freelancers, which means no expense reimbursements, no insurance, and of course, no bail money during protests.
There must be a way to turn this around, and return salaries and expenses to honest, hard working reporters.
It probably would help if readers would not share stolen rewrites and stolen photos by those who are illegally profiteering. They are seizing this content without permission, and placing it on a webpage to illegally make money off of it.
These are often obvious because the webpages are loaded with advertising, so just scroll down to the bottom and look. On Facebook, the pages say "shop now" at the top.
Many fake site use the word 'Native' or 'Indigenous,' or use progressive words like 'Free Thought,' 'Freedom,' or 'Progress.'
Clickbait and Adwords are hard to determine. These are about getting traffic to websites of stolen work. They want 'clicks' on their links, and 'likes' on Facebook.
Here's what readers can do: Before posting or sharing, message the reporters and photographers and ask them if this is their original work and if they were actually present.
Readers can carry out a web search by copying and pasting the first portion of the news story into a search, in order to see if a reputable news organization, or reporter, actually wrote the article.
Meanwhile, those brilliant new reporters and publishers can work on a means of creating the new journalism for future generations -- where news professionals can make a living and prosper for their hard work. And remember, many risk their lives to do this work.

The snakes are crawling into Paris, ready to make bucks on 'Greenwashing.' 
These schemes often are disguised as philanthropies. One of the investors is Bill Gates, already exposed for his investments in GEO private prisons, the human rights abuser targeting migrants and people of color. Gates says he pulled out his other investment in G4S, the global security and prison human rights abuser, whose buses snake along the Arizona border. 
One of the slick abuser strategies was exposed earlier in the Clinton Foundation. Bill Clinton went into countries, claiming to be carrying out human rights efforts, with his Canadian mining buddy and they came away with massive mining deals, including uranium mines in Khazakistan. A leaker exposed the millions that then flowed to the Clintons. 
Another slick operation ready to invest in greenwashing in Paris is the Children's Investment Fund, a hedge fund in the UK. 
Watch for the snakes to crawl out in Paris. 
President Obama is ready to do a deal for 'clean energy research' with Gates, the hedge fund investor and others in Paris. It is called Mission Innovation. 
The private sector in Mission Innovation is called Breakthrough Energy Coalition and no doubt they smell green money. Facebook's Zuckerberg is part of it. It is no surprise to see Hewlett Packard Enterprise's CEO in there.
Keep an eye on it. 
You know the pattern: The people get peanuts and the rich get richer.

In the news: COP21's dirty sponsors

Financial Times reports COP21 sponsor BNP Paribas financed dirty tarsands exploration in Canada.

The Ecologist reports on BNP Paribas financing tarsands. "BNP Paribas, also a COP21 sponsor, continues to be a massive financial driver behind fossil fuel expansion globally. For almost 50 years, it has been behind Canada's tar sands extraction. It is now one of the largest coal financiers in France, having provided half of the total financial support (€15 billion) for the country's coal industry between 2005 and 2014."

Internatonal Business Times reports, "Engie and EDF are reported to own 46 coal-fired power plants worldwide, which produce more than 190 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions a year, according to a study by Corporate Accountability International, an environmental group."

COP21 sponsors include coal financier HSBC, caught money laundering Mexico's drug money, and Coca Cola, caught spying on activists.

The New Internationalist points out in its headline, 'Paris closed to civil society, open to greenwashers.'

"Sponsored by the likes of dirty energy giant Engie (formerly GDF Suez, also an official sponsor of COP21) alongside fracking enthusiast Suez Environment and agrofuels giant Avril-Sofiproteol, the event at the Grand Palais will also welcome Vinci, the company behind the proposed airport at Notre-Dame-des-Landes, coal financiers HSBC and BNP Paribas, and Coca-Cola, among many others."

The water rights settlement being proffered by bureaucrats, certain politicians, and longtime water attorney Stanley Pollack has been recently discussed at chapters of Western Navajo asking for their consent to the agreement.
The settlement, a fraction of the aboriginal claim of the Dine’, has been represented as the “best offer we could get." The question becomes who is it best for?
Once the Dine’ had great leaders like Manuelito and Barboncito, who defined Dine’ bi Keyah by 4 rivers and 4 mountains; these leaders understood negotiations; they had fought off the most powerful empire in history by skillfully playing faction against faction.
These leaders understood they must fight for the protection of the homeland and still leave a great legacy for the coming generations. Skillful leaders afterwards grew the Nation to its’ present size. Almost 100 years later a brave chairman asserted the same claim, calling out the empire for its’ illegal overthrowing of our Nation, and demanded that our compensation equal what is our birthright.

After the removal of former Navajo Chairman Peter MacDonald, it was interesting to see where the attorneys went, who were involved in his removal. One of those attorneys were to DC and worked in water rights, and the others went to southern Arizona to "negotiate" Indian Nations water rights settlements with the federal government.
Earlier, during the federal trial of MacDonald, a Navajo businessman told me the bottom line of the imprisonment of Peter MacDonald. He said, "This about water rights."
Later, Peter MacDonald issued this statement on the Winters Doctrine, urging Navajos to hold fast to their ancestral Dine' water rights:

Nation Council to reject a San Juan River water rights settlement with the
state of New Mexico and instead take the battle for Navajo water rights to
court, under the Winters Doctrine, which gives precedence to Indian water claims.
”Once a tribe makes a settlement with the state, the tribe waives its
claims under the Winters Doctrine. That is the reason behind this settlement
initiated on the part of Congress,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald said Congress began urging Indian tribes in 1989 to agree to water
settlements with states in order to bypass the Winters Doctrine.
"It was done to quiet all the water rights questions in the West,”
MacDonald said.
"The carrot” being held out to Indian tribes, he said, is the promise of
federal money to develop water on Indian lands.
