Over 400 people organized by Californians for a Fair Water Policy, a statewide coalition opposing Gov. Brown’s massive water export tunnels, on Friday attended a rally at the State Capitol protesting the Bay Delta Conservation Plan as the 120 day comment period for the BDCP and environmental documents began.

SACRAMENTO -- At the California Capitol today, the Longest Walk 4 Return to Alcatraz joined other Native Americans to oppose California's current threats to salmon and rivers.

Caleen Sisk, Chief and Spiritual Leader of Winnemem Wintu Tribe, voiced opposition to the tunnel plan as a death sentence for salmon and a violation of indigenous rights. 

Among the speakers was Western Shoshone spiritual leader Johnnie Bobb with the walkers on Longest Walk 4 Return to Alcatraz. 

The Long Walkers were honored tonight, with an early Santa and pizza dinner, provided by Me-wuk of Shingle Springs. 

The walkers said, "We will be walking through Sacramento on Sunday, December 15. The route begins at the McDonalds Parking Lot at Folsom Blvd. and Manlove. We will travel west on Folsom to N St. Up 9th St, west on Capitol, across Bridge and on West Capitol to Meadowdale Park."

The walkers are walking their final miles this week on the five month walk from Washington DC to Alcatraz, which began on July 15 and culminates with the return of the sacred staffs to Alcatraz on Dec. 21. The Oakland Friendship House hosts a Sovereignty Gathering on Dec. 22 with the walkers.
